Jennifer Carpenter Sinks Teeth into Cannibal Western ‘Bone Tomahawk’

jennifer-carpenter

Shit a brick and fuck me with it! Jennifer Carpenter, best known for her portrayal of potty-mouthed Lt. Debra Morgan on Showtime’s “Dexter,” is set to star in screenwriter S. Craig Zahler’s (Asylum Blackout) directorial debut Bone Tomahawk, a cannibal western starring Kurt Russell, Peter Sarsgaard and Richard Jenkins

Russell toplines the film as a sheriff leading a group of misfits—a gunfighter, a cowboy and an old man—on a mission to rescue captives taken by a band of cannibals. Carpenter plays one of the taken. Shooting will take place this spring in New Mexico.

Carpenter made her horror debut as the lead in 2005’s The Exorcism of Emily Rose. Additional genre creds include the outbreak frightener Quarantine and the serial killer dramas Gone and The Factory. She’ll next be seen Christian Christiansen’s (The Roommate) The Occult.

The Dark Side Disney Buys, Announces ‘Star Wars: Episodes VII, VIII & IX’ It Does!

Vader

Disney has purchased Lucasfilm LTD for $4.05 billion in stocks and cash… and I have never been happier for rich white people. The Mouse House now owns the rights to the Star Wars franchise and has announced plans for a new trilogy in the beloved Saga, starting with Episode VII in 2015.

Most exciting of all is that George Lucas will only serve as a creative consultant on the new films, handing over the reigns to new filmmakers. Lucas will always be a hero to Star Wars fans, but it will be interesting to see what other directors/writers bring to the table, providing we don’t get Brett Ratner or McG.

The new deal also gives Disney ownership of all Star Wars merchandise, the Indiana Jones franchise and the companies LucasArts, Industrial Light + Magic, and Skywalker Sound.

Lucas said in a statement:

For the past 35 years, one of my greatest pleasures has been to see Star Wars passed from one generation to the next.

It’s now time for me to pass Star Wars on to a new generation of filmmakers.

I’ve always believed that Star Wars could live beyond me, and I thought it was important to set up the transition during my lifetime.

Clatto Reviews: Halloween Horror Nights 2012

DSC02172

Universal Studios Hollywood is on the last severed leg of its annual Halloween Horror Nights event. As we have since 2006, Mrs. Muertos and I purchased some Front-of-the-Line passes (you’ll look like the walking dead in those hour-long lines if you don’t spring for these) and headed out on a Sunday for some frightful fun.

The production values at Halloween Horror Nights, from maze design to creepy scare zones—each with their own menacing stable of spooks—are unrivaled and do an impressive job of bringing to life horror’s goriest franchises (i.e. Friday the 13th, Nightmare On Elm Street, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Hostel, SAW).

With the introduction of two high-profiled mazes this year, one based on AMC’s runaway hit series “The Walking Dead” and the other on the eerie Silent Hill franchise, the stakes were higher than they’ve ever been in recent years (last few HHN’s have recycled mazes with a few tweaks here and there).

Needless to say, the little lady and I bee-lined to “The Walking Dead” attractions first, starting with the Terror Tram which drops riders off at a part of Universal’s back lot where sets for the Bates Motel and the War of the Worlds airline crash site are displayed.

DSC02157-2

The undead must have been resting in peace on Sunday because what should have been a frightening zombie apocalypse left us feeling stiffed. What’s worse, the few undead walking around often spoke! Zombies don’t speak; they don’t warn you of impending doom.

(Note to HHN: Don’t hire inexperienced young kids as actors. If you do, train them well or you’ll become Knott’s)

The “Walking Dead” maze fared much better despite its lack of zombies. The set looked authentic and guided victims through many of the show’s memorable moments, such as the season one’s hospital escape and the severed zombie lady crawling towards protagonist Rick Grimes.

Up next, we headed to Silent Hill. Though far from being a blockbuster, The Silent Hill franchise has earned many a devout fan with its disturbing imagery and horrifying monsters. It’s one of my favorite series, and I was convinced it would make for one of the best attractions at HHN.

The maze was short and again sparse on actors. The lack of Silent Hill monsters was such a heartbreaking let down. But, I figured the Silent Hill Nurses would remedy my disappointment with their stripper-like bodies and creepy  jittery  movements.

DSC02201

My hopes flatlined when it became apparent these nurses were spending too much time at the cafeteria. They were pudgy and clumsy with their motions. Pyramid Head, however, was a terrifying treat and scared the shit out of us when he swooped down to block our camera… guess he was embarrassed for the nurses.

Our spirits were down, but quickly reanimated by the mazes La Lorona: La Cazadora de Los Ninos, Universal Monsters Remix and Alice Cooper Goes to Hell 3D.

The legend of La Llorona, a tragic tale rooted in Latin folklore, is explored in shocking and unapologetic detail. With its Santeria imagery and brutal displays of gruesome child murders, it’s arguably HHN’s most disturbing maze of all time.

Giant shawled figures with horse skulls for heads roam the maze, a twisted journey through candle-lit churches, horse stables, rivers and nightmare-filled bedrooms. Animatronic Llorona heads swallow children whole before looking to HHN visitors as dessert. It’s fucked up!

DSC02178

Alice Cooper Goes to Hell took us through the shock-rocker’s interpretation of Dante’s Inferno… in 3D! The 3D worked and the maze was a blast. Especially hot was the second circle of hell (LUST) which showcased a couple of sexy devil girls. I didn’t cool down until reaching the ninth—and frozen—stage of hell (Treachery).

Universal Monsters Remix is where we found Chucky (they have a “little actor” stalking the maze) and a mash of mad scientists, movie monsters and mummies, plus deadly DJs and some attractively ghoulish go-go-dancers.

The ‘Haunting’ Haley Bennett Is Now ‘Satanic’

Haley Bennett-Nude

The Weinstein Company has set an Aug. 30, 2013 release date for its new thriller Satanic, starring 24-year-old up-and-comer Haley Bennett. No details about the film’s plot have been released, but I’m guessing it has something to do with satan, satanism and/or parking enforcement.

Bennett made her Hollywood debut in 2007 opposite Hugh Grant and Drew Barrymore in the romantic comedy Music and Lyrics. Since then she has gone on to star in a couple of horror films, though none as horrific as Music and Lyrics.

Bennett has starred in the Joe Dante-directed family-frightener The Hole and gay filmmaker Gregg Araki’s sci-fi comedy Kaboom. She is best known, however, for playing the lead role in producer Mickey Liddell’s (The Grey, The Collector) directorial debut The Haunting of Molly Hartley.

Bennett also starred in Marley & Me, which has nothing to do with horror, but dammit that pooch made me cry.

America-Olivo-Nude

God bless America… America Olivo that is! The former Playboy model and Bitch Slap star continues to share her God-given gifts of T&A with those of us who prefer to watch movies with our hands down our pants.

Olivo goes topless in producer Alexandre Aja’s (Piranha 3-D) remake of William Lustig’s controversial 1980 slasher Maniac, about a sadistic killer named Frank Zito (Elijah Wood) who scalps the female victims he meets online.

Olivo plays Zito’s abusive mom, an angry prostitute who continues to fuck with Zito’s head long after her death. The film, shot through Zito’s POV by director Franck Khalfoun (P2), costars French actress Nora Arnezeder (Safe House) as Zito’s girlfriend Anna.

Olivo, who made her nude horror debut in Platinum Dunes’ Friday the 13th redo, also loses her top in WWE Studios’ No One Lives and Indican Pictures’ serial-killer drama Circle.

Korean Starlet Doona Bae Is a Topless Clone in ‘Cloud Atlas’

Bae_Doona_Nude

Cloud Atlas, the thought-provoking sci-fi drama directed by Lana and Andy Wachowski (The Matrix Trilogy, Speed Racer) and Tom Tykwer (Run Lola Run, Perfume: The Story of a Murder), opened this weekend to soft box office.

Because the Tom Hanks/Halle Berry epic looks intriguing and because the cost of Larry Wachowski’s gender reassignment surgery couldn’t have been cheap, Clatto would like to help boost ticket sales by pointing out that Korean actress Doona Bae goes topless as a clone in the futuristic city of Neo Seoul.

Bae is best known for her roles in internationally acclaimed Korean director Park Chan-wook’s revenge-thriller Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance and Bong Joon-ho’s creature-feature The Host, the highest grossing film to date in South Korea’s history.

Bae also starred as an inflatable-sex-doll-come-to-life in Japanese director Hirokazu Koreeda’s Air Doll, a big screen adaptation of Yoshiie Goda’s manga series “Kuuki Ningyo.” The role scored the 33-year-old a Best Actress Award at the 2010 Takasaki Film Festival in Japan.

NBC will air tonight “Mockingbird Lane,” a Halloween special that was at one time meant to be a TV series reboot of the ’60s sitcom “The Munsters” from executive producers Bryan Singer (X-Men) and Bryan Fuller (”Pushing Daisies).

The two Bryans didn’t see eye-to-eye on the visual style of the series pilot, which was written by Fuller and directed by Singer. Fuller and NBC executives also had some creative differences they couldn’t get over and most likely wouldn’t have due to Fuller’s commitment to NBC’s “Hannibal” series.

“Mockingbird Lane” follows the Munsters as they purchase the Victorian mansion at 1313 Mockingbird Lane. Jerry O’Connell plays Herman, Portia de Rossi is his wife Lily (pictured above), Eddie Izzard is Grandpa, Mason Cook is Eddie and Charity Wakefield is “homely” cousin Marilyn.

Eureka! Ming-Na Wen Cast On Joss Whedon’s ‘S.H.I.E.L.D.’

ming-na-leggy

Actress Ming-Na Wen is the first female lead to be cast in Joss Whedon and Marvel Entertainment’s eagerly anticipated ABC series “S.H.I.E.L.D.” The show is based on the secret military agency run by Nick Fury in the Marvel Comics Universe.

Whedon will direct the pilot from a script written by Whedon, his brother Jed Whedon and Jed’s wife Maurissa Tancharoen. Wen will play Agent Melinda May, an emotionally unstable pilot and weapons expert.

Wen, of course, is best known for starring on one of NBC’s biggest and most influential programs: “The Single Guy.” She played Trudy Sloan, wife to Jonathan Silverman’s best friend on the show… OK, I’m semi-kidding. Ming-Na is best known for playing Dr. Jing-Mei Chen on “ER.”

Genre fans will also recognize the still hot at 48 starlet from her recurring roles on the Syfy series “Eureka” and “Stargate Universe,” and parts on Screen Gems Prom Night remake and Summit Entertainment’s sci-fi thriller Push.

‘Evil Dead’ Remake Trailer Gives Us Something to Root For!

Jane-Levy-Evil-Dead

Sony Pictures has released a gory red-band trailer for Ghost House Pictures upcoming reboot of Sam Raimi’s beloved 1981 classic The Evil Dead. Jane Levy (“Suburgatory”) plays one of five friends who awaken an evil force after reading from the Book of the Dead while stranded at a cabin in  the woods.

Fede Alverez, the aspiring Uruguayan filmmaker who caught Raimi’s attention with an ambitious four-minute-plus short titled Panic Attack, is directing the remake from his own script, punched up by Oscar-winning screenwriter Diablo Cody (Juno, Jennifer’s Body).

Olga-Kurylenko-semi-nude

Empires of the Deep is an underwater sci-fi epic produced by a Chinese real estate mogul and aspiring screenwriter for $130 million in the hopes that it would make his penis taste bigger to white women. The end result is a stoner classic to be appreciated for years to come.

Directed by some guy named Michael French, Empires of the Deep stars Quantum of Solace Bond girl Olga Kurylenko. The 32-year-old French stunner can currently be seen in CBS Films’ Seven Psychopaths, and will star opposite Tom Cruise in Universal Pictures’ sci-fi thriller Oblivion.
