Newcomer Jane Levy is set to replace Lily Collins as the female lead in Ghost House Pictures’ upcoming Evil Dead reboot, Deadline reports. Levy will play recovering overdose victim Mia, a character meant to replace original protagonist Ash Williams, famously played by the mighty Bruce Campbell.

Fede Alverez, an aspiring Uruguayan filmmaker who caught Raimi’s attention with an ambitious four-minute-plus sci-fi short entitled Panic Attack, is directing the remake from his own script, punched up by Oscar-winning screenwriter Diablo Cody (Juno, Jennifer’s Body).

Levy is best known for her recurring role as Ian Gallagher’s girlfriend Mandy Milkovich on season two of Showtime’s “Shameless” and as daughter Tessa Altman on ABC’s family dramedy “Suburgatory.”

The Evil Dead reboot will be shot in New Zealand and is slated for release on April 12, 2013. Shiloh Fernandez (Red Riding Hood) costars.

“Vampire Diaries” recurring Michaela McManus may have gotten away from the supernatural creatures of Mystic Falls, but she’s not out of the woods yet. The pretty Rhode Island-born starlet will face-off against a killer grizzly bear in director David Hackl’s (Saw 5) Red Machine.

The film centers on two estranged brothers and their girlfriends as they attempt to escape from the bloodthirsty grizzly stalking them throughout the Alaskan wilderness. Production begins this month in Vancouver.

Red Machine stars James Marsden (Straw Dogs) and Thomas Jane (Punisher) as the estranged brothers, Piper Perabo (”Covert Affairs”) as Jane’s deaf girlfriend, and Billy Bob Thornton (Armageddon) as an expert bear hunter. Rounding out the cast are Scott Glenn (Sucker Punch), Adam Beach (Cowboys & Aliens) and Kelly Curran (Drifter: Henry Lee Lucas).

No word on what role McManus plays in the film (Marsden’s girlfriend?) but, should she get mauled early on, she can always be seen on the small-screen as part of NBC’s trippy parallel-lives drama “Awake,” premiering in March.

It’s been awhile since Sharon Stone parted her legs to seduce a man on the big screen, but the Basic Instinct star is still smoking. At least, that’s what W2 Media is banking on with their new stalker thriller Attachment.

Directed by Tony Kaye (American History X), the story finds Stone as a married woman tormented by the emotionally unstable college student she shared a one night fling with. Producers will shop the film at next week’s European Film Market in Berlin, Deadline reports.

Stone, whose genre creds include Total Recall, Sphere, Cold Creek Manor, and Diabolique, will soon be seen as Aphrodite in Marc Turtletaub’s (Little Miss Sunshine) big-screen adaptation of  British author Marie Phillips’ novel “Gods Behaving Badly.”

Unlikable rom-com actress Katherine Heigl will produce and star in the kinda dirty-sounding Face Blind. The film marks Heigl’s return to big-screen horror since 2001’s Valentine, in which she costarred with Wild Thing’s babe Denise Richards and “Bones” star David Boreanaz.

Heigl will play a psychologist stricken with prosopagnosia (face blindness), a neurological disorder caused by a lesion in the temporal lobe (that’s the part of the brain that allows us to remember people’s faces, duh.).

According to Deadline, which broke the story, Heigl’s character is stalked by a man who once terrorized one of her patients. Her condition, however, doesn’t allow her to identify the creep, and just ends up making her look crazy.

If Face Blind sounds familiar that’s because it’s pretty much a spot-on rehash of last year’s home-video original Faces in the Crowd, starring Milla Jovovich.

Piper Perabo (Carriers, “Covert Affairs”) is the first female lead cast in director David Hackl’s (Saw 5) upcoming killer grizzly thriller Red Machine. The pretty Texas-born stunner will star opposite Billy Bob Thorton (Sling Blade), James Marsden (Straw Dogs) and Thomas Jane (Punisher).

Written by Rick Cleveland (”Six Feet Under”) and J.R. Reher, Red Machine follows two estranged brothers (Marsden, Jane) and their girlfriends as they attempt to escape from the bloodthirsty grizzly stalking them throughout the Alaskan wilderness.

According to Deadline, Perabo will play a deaf photographer engaged to Jane’s character, whom she met while working the Iraq War. Production on the film begins this month in Vancouver.

As German warrior princess Saxa on the Starz series “Spartacus: Vengeance,” Ellen Hollman is free to live as wild as she sees fit. But, in Italian director Enrico Clerico Nasino’s new psychological frightener True Love, indiscretions could get her and her loved ones hurt.

True Love follows twenty-something newlyweds Kate and Jack as they’re abducted, separated, and kept in locked rooms where they’re forced to watch surveillance footage of their lives together and made to answer emotionally explosive questions about their relationship.

Horror fans may recognize Hollman from her role as doomed med-school student Ivy in director David R. Ellis’ (Shark Night 3-D) 2008 slasher Asylum. The 28-year-old stunner can also be seen in the truly frightening Roadhouse 2: Last Call.

Canadian up-and-comer Rebecca Marshall (Saw 3-D) is in Los Angeles this week shooting writer/director Joe McClean’s (How to Make a David Lynch Film) new psychological sci-fi thriller Life Tracker.

Marshall plays Bell, one of three friends investigating the company Life Tracker Limited and the mysterious device it has created to predict people’s life spans—an invention that has sparked a global mass hysteria. Matt Dallas (”Kyle XY”) and Barry Finnegan (Forever Midnight) costar.

Horror fans may recognize the beautiful 5-foot-8 Hall from her role as doomed lawyer Suzanne in Saw 3-D. She also appeared in Darren Lynn Bousman’s horror-musical Repo! The Genetic Opera and played an alien stripper opposite “Game of Thrones” star Peter Dinklage on an episode of the short-lived CBS series “Threshold.”

Lena Headey (”Game of Thrones”) will star alongside Ethan Hawke (Daybreakers) in Universal Pictures’ Vigilandia, a modestly budgeted frightener from writer/director James DeMonaco (Little New York) set to shoot next month.

Producers Platinum Dunes (Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Friday the 13th) and Blumhouse Productions (Paranormal Activity, Insidious) are keeping plot details on the QT, revealing only that the picture is a sci-fi thriller.

Headey currently stars as Queen Cersei Lannister on the HBO series “Game of Thrones.” She returns to the big-screen later this year in the Pete Travis-directed Dred 3-D, an adaptation of the popular U.K. comic Judge Dredd.

Diane Kruger (Inglourious Basterds) is set to join 17-year-old starlet Saoirse Ronan (Hanna) in director Andrew Niccol’s (In Time) big-screen adaptation of author Stephenie Meyer’s tween sci-fi novel “The Host.”

The Host centers on an alien invasion of human minds. Ronan plays Melanie Stryder, a young woman whose thoughts of love puzzle her would-be extraterrestrial body-snatcher, making it difficult to seize control of her thoughts.

Kruger will play The Seeker, a guardian looking after Melanie as she is the linchpin in a revolution meant to free humans from their alien invaders. Max Irons (Red Riding Hood) and Jake Abel (I Am Number Four) costar as Melanie’s lover Jared Howe and rebel Ian O’Shea, respectively.

Kruger, last seen opposite Liam Neeson in the hit action thriller Unknown, is best known for her portrayal of Dr. Abigail Chase in Walt Disney Pictures’ National Treasure franchise and as actress/spy Bridget von Hammersmark in Quentin Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds.

The Host will be in theaters on March 29, 2013.

Last Exorcism producer Eli Roth is promising an R-rated sequel for his 2010 sleeper hit about a priest who encounters a real demon-possessed soul while shooting a documentary meant to debunk exorcisms.

He tells Deadline:

The first film worked great as a PG-13 psychological film, but now we want to go R-rated and show the true horror of what this subject matter offers.

Obviously with the title of the first one, we had not planned on a sequel, but we love the story and subject matter and had what we feel is an inspired idea to continue it.

Production on the sequel is set to begin next month in New Orleans. The story will pick up three months after the events of the original and will find lead Ashley Bell reprising her role as the possessed Nell Sweetzer.

Helming the StudioCanal financed project will be Ed Gass-Donnelly (This Beautiful City) from a script by Damien Chazelle (Guy and Madeline on a Park Bench).

The Last Exorcism was produced for a little under $2 million and went on to earn over $65 million in worldwide coin.
