If your life has come to a crawl since AMC ’s “The Walking Dead” took its mid-season break, prepare to get your pulses racing. The second half of season two is set to premiere on Feb. 12 with an episode entitled “Nebraska.”

Showrunner Glen Mazzara tells MTV:

If there’s a zombie attack in every other scene the show would play as a video game and people would not really respond to it. I think in our midseason finale, we were building to that climax to where Sophia comes out of the barn, remember that was a twist on already a big scene.

That was by design and the entire season has been designed to have huge payoffs, smaller character moments and I think that there’s a lot of things in the show that satisfies many people in the audience.

At the end of the run all fans will be happy with this show. It’s just packed, particularly in the second half of the season.

“The Walking Dead” is AMC’s highest rated show and has already been renewed for a 16-episode third season. But, let’s not get ahead of ourselves. Posted below is a 30-second tease for season two’s mid-season premiere “Nebraska”:

Diane Kruger (Inglourious Basterds) is set to join 17-year-old starlet Saoirse Ronan (Hanna) in director Andrew Niccol’s (In Time) big-screen adaptation of author Stephenie Meyer’s tween sci-fi novel “The Host.”

The Host centers on an alien invasion of human minds. Ronan plays Melanie Stryder, a young woman whose thoughts of love puzzle her would-be extraterrestrial body-snatcher, making it difficult to seize control of her thoughts.

Kruger will play The Seeker, a guardian looking after Melanie as she is the linchpin in a revolution meant to free humans from their alien invaders. Max Irons (Red Riding Hood) and Jake Abel (I Am Number Four) costar as Melanie’s lover Jared Howe and rebel Ian O’Shea, respectively.

Kruger, last seen opposite Liam Neeson in the hit action thriller Unknown, is best known for her portrayal of Dr. Abigail Chase in Walt Disney Pictures’ National Treasure franchise and as actress/spy Bridget von Hammersmark in Quentin Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds.

The Host will be in theaters on March 29, 2013.

The first trailer for Peter Jackson’s big screen adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit has premiered online. I’m guessing you’ve moved on the trailer by now so I’ll just fill the rest of this post up with my grocery list for tonight: Level Vodka.

The Hobbit will be split into two movies: The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (release date: Dec. 14, 2012) and The Hobbit: There and Back Again (release date: Dec. 13, 2013).

Peep it:

“Camelot’s” Eva Green is nearing a deal to star in the Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures 300 prequel 300: Battle of Artemisia. The 31-year-old Paris-born actress will play Artemisia, the golden goddess who leads Persian king Xerxes into battle against Athenian general Themistokles.

Original 300 director Zach Snyder returns as producer and cowriter on a script based on Frank Miller’s graphic novel. Noam Murro (Smart People) will helm the project, which is set to shoot early next year.

Green, best known for playing Bond girl Vesper Lynd in Casino Royal and sorceress Morgan Le Fay on the Starz short-lived series “Camelot,” will next be seen as witch Angelique Bouchard in Tim Burton’s big-screen adaptation of the 1966 TV goth soap “Dark Shadows.”

A teaser-trailer for Bryan Singer’s (X-Men) 3-D fantasy-adventure Jack the Giant Killer has hit the web. The Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures production is a dark re-imagining of the classic “Jack and the Beanstalk” fable.

Nicholas Hoult (Warm Bodies) plays Jack, the young farmhand who inadvertently opens a gateway to a world of giants eager to take control of the earth. Eleanor Tomlinson (Alice in Wonderland) is the runaway princess he falls for and must rescue from the behemoths.

Peep it:

I’m digging the trailer, but I hope Singer has at least one of the giants whip out his beanstalk to pee on the humans. It would make for an amazing flood sequence—like the opening to Clint Eastwood’s Hereafter.

Just an idea.

Jack the Giant Killer also stars Ewan McGregor as head of the king’s elite guard, Stanley Tucci as the king’s evil advisor, and Bill Nighy and John Kassir as the two-headed giant ruler Fallon. The film arrives in theaters on June 15, 2012.

Posted above is the first image from Dead Snow director Tommy Wirkola’s Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters, a flash forward of the classic fairy tale that finds the siblings hunting down supernatural forces for profit. EW scored the pic and an interview with star Gemma Arterton.

She says:

They resonate with your fears, that’s how these fairy tales worked. They scared you into behaving. This one in particular is about abandonment and being lost and parents leaving you. The heart of it is that these kids grow up to be bloodthirsty witch hunters. It’s a bit tongue-in-cheek, really. What would Hansel and Gretel be in 15 years time?

We spent a lot of time thinking about that and behaving like brother and sister, making it detailed so it wasn’t just two actors kicking butt, really. That would get boring. In our minds, these are two people who grew up with no parents and they only have each other and the bond they have, and with the complexities of that, some resentment.

Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters costars Jeremy Renner as Hansel (pictured above) and Famke Janssen (X-Men), Zoe Bell (Death Proof) and Norwegian actress Ingrid Bolsø Berdal (Cold Prey) as evil witches.

The film finds its way into theaters on March 2, 2012.

Disney has released the first full-length trailer for their big screen adaptation of Edgar Rice Burroughs’ “John Carter from Mars,” starring Lynn Collins as Princess Dejah Thoris, Willem Dafoe as Tars Tarkas, Bryan Cranston as Civil War Colonel Powell and Taylor Kitsch as John Carter.

The official synopsis reads:

[John Carter] tells the story of war-weary, former military captain John Carter (Taylor Kitsch), who is inexplicably transported to Mars where he becomes reluctantly embroiled in a conflict of epic proportions amongst the inhabitants of the planet.

In a world on the brink of collapse, Carter rediscovers his humanity when he realizes that the survival of Barsoom and its people rests in his hands.

The film marks the live-action debut of Oscar-winning Pixar badass Andrew Stanton, writer and director of Wall-E, Finding Nemo, and A Bug’s Life. Stanton is also the writer behind the Toy Story franchise, Monsters Inc. and its upcoming sequel Monsters University.

John Carter will open in 3-D on March 9, 2012.

Kristen Stewart (Snow White and the Huntsman), Lily Collins (Mirror, Mirror) and Ginnifer Goodwin (“Once Upon a Time”) aren’t exactly the apple of your eye in their respective Snow White roles, you may want to take a look at Shanley Caswell in Snow White: A Deadly Summer.

Directed by David DeCoteau (Puppet Master: Axis of Evil), the re-imagining finds Snow White being sent away to camp by her wicked stepmother. Once there, she befriends seven campers who mysteriously start to turn up dead one-by-one.

Snow White: A Deadly Summer costars Eric Roberts (of course it does) and OG “Brady Bunch” star Maureen McCormick. No word on a release date, but I’ll keep you Dopey bastards updated.

HBO has released a behind-the-scenes featurette for season two of its acclaimed fantasy series “Game of Thrones.” The clip provides a look at Natalie Dormer as Margaery Tyrell (King Robert’s brother’s wife) and commentary from producer/writers David Benioff and D.B. Weiss.

“Game of Thrones” season two will consist of 10 episodes spanning the length of the book “A Clash of Kings,” the second volume in author  George R.R. Martin’s popular book series “A Song of Ice and Fire.” The show is slated to premiere in April.

Peep it:

“Chuck” starlet Yvonne Strahovski will wake the dead in Lakeshore Entertainment’s I, Frankenstein, a futuristic re-imagining of Mary Shelly’s classic novel adapted from Kevin Grevioux’s (”Underworld”) graphic comic.

A sequel of sorts, I, Frankenstein reveals that Victor Frankenstein’s monster (Aaron Eckhart) did not commit suicide, but is instead living in a Gothic metropolis where two immortal clans have been feuding for centuries. Strahovski will play a scientist duped into reanimating the dead by a demon leader (Bill Nighy).

The Stuart Beattie-directed film will shoot this winter in Australia and is slated for release on Feb. 2, 2013.

Strahovski, who is coming off the Jason Statham action vehicle Killer Elite, is best known for her role as CIA agent Sarah Walker on the NBC comedy “Chuck.” Her horror creds include the Australian outback frightener Gone and Magnolia Pictures’ man-vs-wild thriller The Canyon.
