Canadian starlet Amanda Crew is toplining director Robert Cuffley’s Ferocious, a delightfully sleazy-sounding thriller that finds Crew playing a popular American actress out to retrieve a humiliating sex tape of herself shot during her days as a stripper.

The film’s official synopsis reads:

Leigh Parish (Crew) is the star on one of North America’s most popular TV shows. Beautiful, charismatic…her star’s ascension seems to have no ceiling.

On a return trip home and during a standard paint-by-number television interview, one of the phone in callers trips her up, unearthing an all-consuming anxiety within Leigh…one she had hoped was permanently buried.

Maurice is Leigh’s former boss, back when she worked in a sleazy nightclub, long before becoming famous. In his possession is a videotape with Leigh as the star. If distributed, the tape would effectively end Leigh’s career in the entertainment business.

The mere thought of the tape is enough to get Leigh’s blood pressure to rise. Maurice knows this and is intent on extorting Leigh for the rest of her life. But Leigh isn’t paying Maurice another nickel. She’s going to break into the club, retrieve the tape and destroy it. Or so the plan goes…

Or, so the plan goes? Hmm. Maybe she doesn’t get the tape back and instead goes on to land a Ryan Seacrest produced-reality show … terrifying.

Crew made her feature film debut in the 2006 frightener Final Destination 3. She has since gone on to star in Rampart Films’ upcoming sci-fi drama The Repeaters, the 2008 Lionsgate sleeper A Haunting in Connecticut and Summit’s criminally underrated—but hilarious Sex Drive.

Ferocious will shoot in Saskatoon, Canada through mid-December. Kim Coates (”Sons of Anarchy”) Stephen Huszar (30 Days of Night: Dark Days), Michael Eklund (The Divide) and Amy Matysio (Rabbit) costar.

Josh Brolin has scored the lead in Spike Lee’s American remake of South Korean director Park Chan-wook’s revenge thriller Oldboy. Written by Mark Protosevich (I Am Legend), the Mandate Pictures and Vertigo Entertainment production will roll camera next March.

Oldboy tells the tale of a man (Brolin) who is abducted and held captive in a crappy hotel room for 15 years for no apparent reason. When he is finally released, he sets out to find and take vengeance on the people who ruined his life.

Oldboy is one of those films that people keep telling me I have to see, but that I keep pushing down my Netflix queue in favor of English-speaking movies—even those starring Nic Cage. Needless-to-say, I’m thrilled this is happening.

Brolin just wrapped Barry Sonnenfeld’s Men in Black 3. His previous genre creds include Robert Rodriguez’s Planet Terror, Guillermo Del Toro’s Mimic, Paul Verhoeven’s Hollow Man, and last year’s unfortunate misstep Jonah Hex.

A trailer for director Dwight H. Little’s (”Bones”) live-action adaptation of the Namco fighting game Tekken is circulating the web. The film stars Kelly Overton as Christie, Mircea Monroe as Kara, Candice Hillebrand as Nina Williams, Marian Zapico as Anna Williams, Jon Foo as Jin Kazama, and Luke Goss as Steve Fox.

Set in the post apocalyptic world of 2039, Tekken follows street fighter Jin Kazama as he battles to the death against champion martial artists and half-naked women in the King of Iron Fist tournament.

Horror fans may recognize Overton from The Ring 2 and Monroe from The Black Waters of Echo Pond. Little’s directing creds include Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers, Phantom of the Opera (starring Robert Englund), and episodes of the Fox series “Millennium.”

Anchor Bay Entertainment will release Tekken on July 19 on DVD and Blu-ray.

Peep the King of Iron Fist Tournament:

Director Frankie Latina is assembling quite a motley crew of actors to star in Skinny Dip, his comedic ode to exploitation cinema. The cast currently includes former porn star Sasha Grey, ’70s sex-pot Pam Grier, reality show tragedy Brigitte Nielson, tough guys Michael Madsen and Bill Moseley, and everyone’s favorite Mexi-can Danny Trejo.

The film stars Grey as a nice girl who on a dare goes for nude swim and gets caught up in a storm that delivers her to the beach where a group of college football players have gathered to party and gang-rape.

When local law enforcement fails to provide justice, she takes matters into her own hands—which brings us to the film’s tagline: “They took her bikini. They took her virginity. She took her revenge.”

Production on the rape/revenge thriller is set to begin next month in Santa Marta, Colombia.

Cinemax has set a May 13 premiere date for its erotically-charged new anthology series “Femme Fatales.” Hosted by South African model-turned-actress Tanit Phoenix (Death Race 2: Frankenstein Lives), each of the show’s 13-episodes will explore just how far a woman will go to get revenge and/or escape a dire situation.

The show is inspired by and styled in the tradition of pulp stories, film noir and graphic novels, and takes place in contemporary settings. Each episode features different casts and storylines, some of which are intertwined.

The show’s premiere episode is entitled “Behind Locked Doors” and stars pretty newcomer Kit Willesee as a spoiled, out-of-control Lindsay Lohan-like actress who gets thrown into a cell with a hardened felon, played by Serbian stunner Ana Alexander (Oh, please, may there be a plunger involved).

I gotta say that kicking the series off with an episode set in a woman’s prison is a great way to form a covenant between producers and viewers—a holy union that promises nudity and lesbians in exchange for ratings. I, for one, am all in.

If “Femme Fatales” looks like something you’d enjoy, don’t forget to check out Univision’s “Mujeres Asesinas,” an anthology series—now in its third season—that follows desperate, angry, and often top-heavy women as they viciously discard the men who have wronged them.

Zoe Saldana is one pissed off mamasita in producer/writer Luc Besson’s (La Femme Nikita) new revenge-thriller Colombiana. The 32-year-old stunner plays an assassin out to slaughter the pricks who murdered her family in front of her when she was just ten.

Colombiana is directed by Olivier Megaton (Transporter 3) and costars Michael Vartan (”Alias”), Lennie James (”The Walking Dead”), Callum Blue (”Dead Like Me”), Jordi Molla (Knight and Day), and Monica Acosta (Scream of the Banshee).

The film will also give “Spartacus: Blood and Sand” fans their first look at Cynthia Addai-Robinson, the actress replacing Leslie Ann-Brandt in the role of Body Slave Naevia in season two of the hit Starz series.

Colombiana is set to hit theaters on Sept 2.

Director Steven R. Monroe is following up his superb 2010 remake of Meir Zarchi’s I Spit On Your Grave with yet another white-knuckle, femme-fatale revenge thriller. Set to shoot in June, Hole in the Desert stars genre babe Cerina Vincent as a vengeful spirit who enlists the help of a downtrodden man to bring death to her murderers.

Vincent says:

I am just thrilled to be a part of this. It’s truly an honor to work with director Steven R. Monroe again. His script is incredible – it’s got wit, edge, and depth… His vision for this will make for an edgy, sexy, suspenseful ride with moments of tenderness and some intense violence.

Horror fans may recognize Vincent from her roles in Eli Roth’s viral-frightener Cabin Fever, Nick Palumbo’s nasty little indie-slasher Murder-Set-Pieces, and Victor Garcia’s fun supernatural thriller Return to the House on Haunted Hill. The 32-year-old stunner’s most memorable turn, however, remains that of all-nude foreign exchange student Areola in the Columbia Pictures spoof Not Another Teen Movie.

Vincent also played Yellow Power Ranger Maya on Fox TV’s 1999 kid’s show “Power Rangers: Lost Galaxy.”

After helming the 2005 Syfy original creature-feature Pterodactyl, many assumed director Mark L. Lester had swallowed some shotgun candy and called it a life. As it turns out, the man behind Class of 1984 (1982), Firestarter (1984), Commando (1985), Armed & Dangerous (1986), and Showdown in Little Tokyo (1991) is only dead on the inside.

The 64-year-old filmmaker is back with a new ridiculous psycho-bitch thriller entitled Groupie. The film stars Taryn Manning (Manson Girls) as a woman out to avenge the accidental concert death of her boyfriend by killing off the members of The Dark Knights, a rock band on the comeback trail. Costars include “90210’s” Hal Ozsan as the band’s lead singer, Eric Roberts as the group’s manager, and horror hottie Betsy Rue.

Guys who watch movies with their hands down their pants will recognize Rue as My Bloody Valentine 3-D’s ill-fated motel victim who fights off her assailant in the nude for 8-minutes. Her additional creds include Rob Zombie’s Halloween 2 and guest roles on HBO’s “True Blood,” Fox TV’s “Bones,” and the CBS crime series “The Mentalist.”

Manning and Rue’s participation in this flick automatically earn it a spot on my Netflix queue. But, also drawing me in is the possibility that screenwriters Michael Feifer and Randall Frakes may have gotten inspiration for their story from the tragic 2003 Great White concert fire at The Station nightclub in Rhode Island.

Groupie arrives on DVD on June 14 from Allegro Entertainment.

Shia LaBeouf is set to star in Mandalay Pictures’ big screen adaptation of author Joe Hill’s horror-romancer Horns. LaBeouf will play a man who awakens after one drunken night to find that horns are growing out of his head and that he is developing mysterious powers that he soon hopes to use to avenge the murder of his girlfriend.

The book’s synopsis reads:

Merrin Williams is dead, slaughtered under inexplicable circumstances, leaving her beloved boyfriend Ignatius Perrish (LaBeouf) as the only suspect. On the first anniversary of Merrin’s murder, Ig spends the night drunk and doing awful things.

When he wakes the next morning he has a thunderous hangover . . . and horns growing from his temples. Ig possesses a terrible new power to go with his terrible new look—a macabre gift he intends to use to find the monster who killed his lover. Being good and praying for the best got him nowhere. Now it’s time for revenge.

Hill, the son of author Stephen King, is attached as executive producer. Screenwriter Keith Bunin is adapting the book.

LaBeouf will next be seen in Michael Bay’s Transformers: Dark of the Moon, in theaters on July 1.

“7th Heaven” star Haylie Duff is set to star opposite C. Thomas Howell in director Doug Campbell’s revenge thriller Home Invasion. The 26-year-old will play a single mother who kills a robber in her house and is then befriended by the crook’s vengeful girlfriend while attending a support group.

Duff, older sister to Hilary Duff, has starred in the survival frighteners Backwoods and Fear Island, the sleep paralysis thriller Nightmare, and 1998’s direct-to-video sequel Addams Family Reunion. She will next be seen in actor-turned director Michael Rooker’s upcoming ghost story Pennhurst.

Home Invasion will roll camera on March 8 in Los Angeles.
