Just when you thought the weather was safe, The Asylum announces Sharknado Origins, the seventh film in the creature-feature comedy franchise that first took a bite out of pop culture in 2013. Production will begin later this year, with Anthony Ferrante returning to helm his shark saga in time for a summer 2026 release.

The original Sharknado starred “Beverly Hills 90210” alum Ian Ziering as Fin, a Venice Beach bar owner searching for his estranged family amidst a shark-flinging tornado. American Pie stunner and notorious party girl Tara Reid played his hot ex-wife, April. The pair survived five sequels: Sharknado: The Second One, Sharknado 3: Oh Hell No!, Sharknado: The 4th Awakens, Sharknado 5: Global Swarming, and 2018’s The Last Sharknado.

Sharknado Origins will reintroduce Fin and April as young lovers enjoying their beach summer together, as the very first Sharknado touches ground. No casting news yet, and producers will most likely pass on a cameo by Reid after she sued them for millions over merchandise profits—but we couldn’t pass up a chance to post Reid’s pic!
