Nominees for 67th Annual Golden Globe Awards Announced, Horror/Sci-Fi Told to Fuck Off!

golden

The nominations for the 67th annual Golden Globe Awards were announced today and, as is to be expected, there wasn’t much love for the horror/sci-fi genres. Among the notable omissions are J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek reboot (over $380 mil in worldwide box office) and Oren Peli’s little horror-indie that could Paranormal Activity (over $150 mil worldwide box office), both distributed through Paramount Pictures. Neill Blomkamp’s District 9 did managed to score a nom for Best Screenplay and James Cameron’s smurfs-in-space epic Avatar secured four nominations, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Original Score, and Best Original Song.

Horror and sci-fi did fare better in the television categories. Showtime’s serial-killer drama “Dexter” and HBO’s vampire serial “True Blood” received nominations for Best Drama and nailed acting noms for their respective leads Anna Paquin and Michael C. Hall. In TV’s supporting actor category, Emmy award-winner Michael Emerson locked down a nom for his portrayal of sinister mastermind Benjamin Linus on ABC’s “Lost.”

The 67th annual Golden Globe Awards will be hosted by actor/comedian Ricky Gervais. NBC will broadcast the show live from the Beverly Hilton on Jan. 17, 2010. For a complete list of nominees, visit the Golden Globes’ website.

‘Twilight Saga: Eclipse’ Just 6 Months Away! Official Poster & Image Revealed!

eclipseposter

This is the first official poster for Summit’s Twilight Saga: Eclipse. The film is directed by David Slade and will make its way into theaters on June 30, 2010.

The third chapter’s synopsis reads:

Bella and Edward have been reunited, but their forbidden relationship is threatened to be torn apart again with an evil vampire still seeking her revenge. And Bella is forced to choose between her true love for Edward or her friendship with Jacob Black as the struggles between vampires and werewolves continues. But there is still another choice for Bella to make, mortality or immortality?

At a glance, Eclipse appears to be the same old angst-riddled, tweeny-bopper supernatural romance, but it should be noted that the man holding the reigns to this new chapter is the director of the viciously brutal and gory 30 Days of Night (number 4 on our 15 Vampire Movies That Won’t Make You Gay list).

Will Slade’s involvement give the franchise some much needed teeth … or  was taking the project just a means for him to score mountains of cash to spend on coke and beautiful Euro models? Either way, I respect the guy.

New ‘Lost’ Promo Spot Set to Air Tonight! See it Here!

lostgroup

ABC will air a one-minute promo spot for “Lost: Season 6” during tonight’s episode of “The Forgotten.” Set to a haunting rendition of “Amazing Grace” by country icon Willie Nelson, the clip culls footage from the Emmy award-winning series’ previous five seasons.

Because I know no one is watching “The Forgotten,” I have posted the promo here:

According to executive producers Carlton Cuse and Damon Lindelof, ABC promos for the beloved sci-fi series will not feature any new footage so creative little mash-up spots like this are the most we can expect. Spain’s Cuatro network got the ball rolling last month with their own promo set to Radiohead’s “Everything In Its Right Place.” To see that clip, click here.

“Lost’s” sixth and final season begins on Feb. 2, 2010.

Naughty Dog’s Uncharted 2: Among Thieves scored many of the evenings top prizes, including Game of the Year, Best Graphics, and Best Playstation 3 Game. The horror genre, unfortunately, didn’t fare too well this year, with just Valve’s Left 4 Dead 2 winning an award for Best XBox 360 Game.

Sci-fi and fantasy ruled, however, in the voice categories. Sex kitten Megan Fox commanded Best Performance by a Human Female for her contribution to the Luxoflux game Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. Huge Jackman and the cast of Activision’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine won Best Performance by a Human Male and Best Cast, respectively. And, funny-man Jack Black took home the Best Voice award for his turn as Eddie Riggs in Electronic Arts’ heavy-metal fantasy game Brutal Legend.

Tyler Posey Headlines MTV’s ‘Teen Wolf’

tp

Eighteen-year-old actor Tyler Posey is set to play the lead in MTV’s upcoming cable serial Teen Wolf. Based on the 1985 werewolf-comedy of the same name, the series will revolve around Scott McCall, a high-school outcast who gains powers and popularity after being bitten by a wolf. Costars include Crystal Reed as the love interest, Dylan O’Brien as the best friend, and Tyler Hoechlin as the series’ villain.

MTV describes the new Teen Wolf as a dramatic thriller with comedic and romantic plot lines. “Criminal Minds” creator Jeff Davis is attached to write the pilot episode and will serve as executive producer along with “Prison Break’s” Marty Adelstein and “Medium’s” Rene Echevarria.

The original Teen Wolf starred Emmy award-winning actor Michael J. Fox. The film grossed an impressive $33 million upon its release in ’85 and remains a cult classic today. Teen Wolf Too, starring Jason Bateman, didn’t fare as well, raking in only a little over $7 million in 1987.

On a personal note, I just don’t see how they can top this:

‘Ghostbusters 3’ Is Happening, Bill Murray Onboard Says Sigourney Weaver!

ghostbusters

It’s hard to know what possessed Sigourney Weaver to reveal secrets about the yet-to-be-announced Ghostbusters 3 project, but we give thanks to Zuul. During an interview with the UK’s Channel 4 News, Weaver announced that Ghostbusters 3 will be made and that Bill Murray will return as a ghost.

sigourney

Weaver says:

I’m afraid to say it is happening, I hope people are excited about that. I don’t know if I’m going to be in it, I have had a couple of calls asking ‘would you read the script.’ I know that my little son Oscar – who was kidnapped from me – I think he has grown up to be a ghostbuster. I might be in it; I see nothing wrong with being in it, although I don’t think I will have a big part. I think Bill Murray has a little more to do with it – he’s a ghost.

The original Ghostbusters was released in 1984 and grossed over $290 million worldwide. Ghostbusters 2 grossed over $215 million worldwide in 1989. Both films were directed by Ivan Reitman and starred Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, Ernie Hudson, Rick Moranis, and Weaver.

Director Eli Roth Helped Lonely Men Jack-Off to Raise Money for Student Films!

eli

Before terrifying audiences worldwide with his ultra-violent Hostel films, before winning rave reviews for his scene-stealing performance as “The Bear Jew” in Quentin Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds, director/writer/actor Eli Roth was helping lonely, socially-awkward men jack-off.

Roth admits to The New York Post:

… when I was in college I used to work as an online operator for Penthouse, posing as a woman. That’s how I paid for my student films. They hired guys because guys know what other guys want to hear. So I was on an 800-speed modem in my dorm room with three other guys and, dude, I could type like 120 words a minute!

The creepy thing was, because this was in 1991, we only got doctors and scientists because they were the ones using the Internet. One guy told a customer he was a stripper and he started FedExing him cash — I never took it to that level, but guys were paying $1 a minute to talk with us. There were ads for me in magazines too!

Roth tells The Post that one of his feminine alter-egos was a heavy metal groupie named Tami. He adds:

She was a dirty whore who lived in the East Village. Tami was a heavy metal chick who had a gang bang with Guns & Roses and Poison in one night!

The funny thing, the last night my friend and I outed ourselves. We wrote, “We are men! we have penises! We’ve been f***ing with you the whole time!” We debated over hitting the send button, it was like launching World War III — but we hit it and the guys were like, “Oh shut up Tami, tell me about your t***.” But we kept insisting, “No, we’re really guys” and the guys kept ignoring it, “Oh Tami, you’re so funny.”

No matter what you tell them, guys will believe whatever they want. But that paid for my student films. I feel like I was giving back to the community.

Yea, the gay community. BURN!

I’m kidding. There’s no judgement here at Clatto. In fact, the Hostel films are so fucking awesome, I wouldn’t care if Roth blew dudes at truck stops to get his start.

Note: An internet chatroom masturbator historian points out in the Post’s comments section that Penthouse did not launch its online sex rooms until 1994, suggesting that Roth has either got his dates wrong or is just yanking our chain.
