Welcome to Crazy Town: New Trailer for ‘The Crazies’

poster_crazies

The one thing I enjoy more than a George Romero movie is a remake of a George Romero movie. The iconic filmmaker has written and directed such influential horror shows as Night of the Living Dead, Dawn of the Dead, and Martin. Unfortunately, Romero’s best work (with the exception of 2005’s Land of the Dead)  was done during the ’70s and early ’80s.

While horror purists hold Romero’s films close to their black little hearts, I just can’t get past how dated they are to truly enjoy them. That’s why I loved Zack Snyder’s 2004 take on Dawn of the Dead and why I am totally looking forward to director Breck Eisner’s (Beyond) remake of Romero’s underrated 1973 classic The Crazies.

crazies-radha

The Crazies is set in a small Midwestern town plagued by a mysterious virus that makes the infected act on their violent urges. The few townsfolk not poisoned during the outbreak are left to fend for themselves as the military quarantines their town in an effort to contain the disease.

Check out the latest trailer:

Among the survivors are the town’s sheriff (Timothy Olyphant), his pregnant wife (Radha Mitchell), sheriff’s deputy Russell (Joe Anderson), and medical worker Becca (Danielle Panabaker).

The Crazies make their way into theaters on Feb. 26, 2010. Down below, you’ll find the film’s first official trailer.

BUY: LOST (SEASON 5)

lost5

If you watched it when it aired, you know that season 5  is an emotionally draining, mind fucking nail-biter. The Oceanic 6—minus Aaron, plus airline pilot Frank Lapidus and Svengali-like master-manipulator Benjamin Linus—return to the island. John Locke returns from the grave (or does he?). And, Daniel Faraday returns with a plan to blow shit up.

Lost-jughead

Elsewhere, Sawyer and Juliette fall in love while becoming an integral part of the Dharma Initiative. Sayid attempts to alter both history and Ben’s fate with one bullet. Jacob is revealed. And … well, can’t really say much more without spoiling it for those who haven’t seen it.

sawyer

Both the DVD and Blu-ray disc include audio commentaries, deleted scenes, blooper reel, and the featurettes: “LOST on Location,” “Building 23 and Beyond,” “An Epic Day with Richard Alpert,” “Making Up for LOST Time,” and “Mysteries of the Universe: The Dharma Initiative.”

The Blu-ray edition also features “LOST University,” an interactive college-like course on the show powered by BD-Live, and “LOST 100,” which features cast and crew reflecting on the series’ first 100 episodes.

Check out the blooper reel:

I purchased the Blu-ray edition (it’s really the only way to go with “Lost”) for about $50 at Best Buy and was pleased to find a 20-minute Bonus DVD that included additional deleted scenes, BTS material for the episodes “This Place is Death” and “316,” and the featurettes “Ben vs. Desmond,” “Locke’s Leg,” and “Rose and Bernard Retirement.”  The package also included a Dharma Initiative luggage tag (for us geeks on-the-go)!

RENT: RUN! BITCH RUN!

run

Full disclosure: I have not seen this movie. But, dammit, I want to!

The synopsis reads:

RUN! BITCH RUN! tells the story of Catherine and Rebecca, two Catholic School girls going door-to-door selling Religious paraphernalia in order to pay for their education. Things go horribly wrong when they knock on the wrong door in the wrong neighborhood. After she is brutally raped and left for dead Catherine awakes with one thing on her mind, REVENGE.

Run! Bitch Run! is a throw back to the classic 1970’s Rape and Revenge films like ‘Last House On the Left’ and ‘Ms. 45.  The film takes place in the late 1970’s where the lack of modern technology made the world a more vulnerable place. This is an original story that has not been explored in recent films.  Its uniqueness and chilling subject matter lends itself to horror/thriller audiences looking for something new.

Now, check out the trailer:

Yes, it looks cheap and awful. And, yes, it’s sad for the producers to have the creepy kid from Rob Zombie’s Halloween as their only recognizable “star.” But, come on. It’s got white bitches and black bitches and holy bitches! I’m gonna do my best to find it for rent. It can’t be worse than …

BURY: HARRY POTTER AND THE HALF-BLOOD PRINCE

harry2

The sixth installment in the Harry Potter saga pretty much picks up where The Order of the Phoenix concluded, giving us an exciting 20 minutes of action and wonder. Once the fairy dust settles, however, the film just never takes off again. There are no big battles to be had between the Hogwarts and Death Eaters. Instead we get excruciatingly dull subplots and romantic play that was neither endearing nor organic. The flick is a total yawn-fest. Of course, I know many of you are too invested in the series to pull out now so—if you will not heed my advice—I recommend you at least do mountains of coke before viewing.

emma

Both the 2-disc DVD edition and Blu-ray disc include additional scenes, Q&A sessions with the cast, promo for Universal Orlando’s upcoming Potter-based theme park attraction, a sneak peek at Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, and featurettes showcasing the Potter cast and creator J.K. Rowling.

Exclusive Blu-ray bonus material feature BD-Live community and Maximum Movie Mode, an interactive movie-watching experience hosted by director David Yates, producers David Heyman and David Barron, and stars Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, Emma Watson and Tom Felton.

‘Take Action Tour’ Aims to Register 2010 People for the National Marrow Registry

take action hot topic 2010 logo(2)

We cover a lot of horrific things here at Clatto. But, nothing is more terrifying than being in a life-threatening situation with no one to help. Fourteen-year-old leukemia survivor Patrick Pedraja and his family launched the non-profit organization Driving for Donors in 2007 to help those battling leukemia and lymphoma.

Come January, his cause will be front and center as part of Sub City’s 9th annual Take Action Tour, featuring musical guests The Kings, May Day Parade, A Rocket to the Moon, There for Tomorrow, and Stereo Skyline. The tour aims to register 2010 people for the National Marrow Registry. If you’d like to rock out while you help out, you can purchase tickets here.

For more info, check out the press release:

Hopeless Records, through its non profit organization Sub City, is pleased to once again bring you the Take Action Tour. This year the tour will spotlight Patrick Pedraja and the need to get people signed up for the National Marrow Registry. Presented by Hot Topic, the tour will feature headliner WE THE KINGS, in addition to MAYDAY PARADE, A ROCKET TO THE MOON, THERE FOR TOMORROW, and STEREO SKYLINE (on select dates). The annual nationwide charity tour, now in its ninth year, raises funds and awareness for youth involvement in charitable action. The tour will kick off in Atlanta, GA on January 25th and end on March 2nd in Dallas, TX

10% of the cost of each ticket sold is donated to further this cause making each person attending the Take Action Tour an active participant in making the world a better place. In addition Take Action is offering fans an opportunity to personally help save a life with onsite registration for the National Marrow Registry available at every tour stop. Registration is simple and only requires the donor to be between the ages of 18 and 61, have a desire to help save a life, and have time for a quick cheek swab and simple paperwork. Registering is much easier than most people think and information about the entire process can be found  at BeTheMatch.org. Those under 18 will have plenty of ways to support the cause as well and they can learn more at each show or by visiting drivingfordonors.com.

Presenting sponsor Hot Topic has worked with the Take Action Tour since the tour’s inception in 1999 and their commitment to helping make a positive impact continues to be as strong in 2010 as it has ever been. The music lifestyle mall retailer is a natural fit as a presenter, because they demonstrate a passion for music in everything they do. Expect to see the bands from the tour making several special appearances at local Hot Topic locations throughout the tour. Natalie Portman to Produce & Star in ‘Pride and Prejudice and Zombies’

natalie

Natalie Portman will produce and star as Elizabeth Bennet in the highly anticipated film adaptation of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. Based on author Seth Grahame-Smith’s book, an outrageous re-imagining of the Jane Austin novel Pride and Prejudice, the movie follows Bennet as she wrestles with the issues of morality, manners, and the undead in 19th century London.

ppz

Annette Savitch, VP of Development for Portman’s Handsomecharlie Films banner, had this to say:

Natalie and I are longtime passionate fans of Jane Austen’s books and this is a fresh, fun and thought-provoking way to approach her work. The idea of zombies running rampant in 19th Century England may sound odd, but it lends a modern sense of urgency to a well known love story.

Portman is currently filming Darren Aronofsky’s Black Swan in New York.

Pride and Prejudice and Zombies was published earlier this year by Quirk Books. The novel garnered positives reviews and cracked the New York Times bestseller list. In September, the publishing house followed up PPZ’s success with another Jane Austin mashup: Sense and Sensibility and Sea Monsters, written by Ben H. Winters.

sss

Seth Grahame-Smith is said to be working on a new novel entitled Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter.

The producers behind the psychological thriller Black Swan appear to be working overtime on making sure their ballet movie will appeal to the male demographic. For starters, there isn’t  a single ugly duckling in the film’s female cast.

Directed by Darren Aronofsky (The Fountain, Pi) , Swan stars Natalie Portman, Mila Kunis, Winona Ryder, and now Kristina Anapau as dancers competing to land a role in their company’s production of “Swan Lake.” Uh-oh, am I losing you guys again? Well, the movie also includes a nasty little sex scene between Portman and Kunis. Ah … you’re back.

Kristina

Kristina Anapau plays Russian dancer and soloist Galina in the movie. Black Swan is currently shooting in New York.

Up next for Anapau is the werewolf horror-comedy First Howl. She can also be seen in the 2005 Wes Craven chiller Cursed.

‘Gossip Girl’ Goes Manga! But, Will Blake Lively Get Raped by Tentacles?

gossip

The Yen Press has announced the launch of a new Japanese manga series based on author Cecily Von Ziegesar bestselling Gossip Girl books. Written and illustrated by HyeKyung Baek, Gossip Girl: For Your Eyes Only will re-imagine Ziegesar’s storylines and focus on two of it’s lead bitches: Blair Waldorf and Vanessa Abrams.

gossip2

The Gossip Girl books—13 in all—follow the backstabbing adventures of troubled teen girls at an elite  private high school in New York. The CW Television Network adapted the first novel in the series to produce the hit show “Gossip Girl,” now on its third season.

Kurt Hassle, publishing director for Yen Press, says:

There are few series in the publishing world that have been as impactful or successful as Cecily von Ziegesar’s GOSSIP GIRL. The novels have captured the imaginations of young women around the world, and we look forward to demonstrating with GOSSIP GIRL: FOR YOUR EYES ONLY that graphic novels as a medium can be just as welcoming to girls as it is to boys.

Especially, if the girls are down with tentacle rape!

OMFG

OMFG

I kid. Tentacle rape is only found in hentai. However, manga can be pretty racy and, judging this book by its cover, I’d say we’re finally gonna see some hot snooty beyotches get owned!

Gossip Girl: For Your Eyes Only debuts in January. It will be published monthly.

New Iron Man 2 Poster: Whiplash!

whiplash

I’m not certain how you’re supposed to distinguish between the outfit Mickey Rourke wears in Iron Man 2 and what he wears out on the town on any given day, but I’m assured that what you see here on this poster is Rourke done up as Tony Stark’s Russian nemesis Ivan Vanko, aka Whiplash.

The synopsis for Iron Man 2 reads:

Paramount Pictures and Marvel Entertainment present the highly anticipated sequel to the blockbuster film based on the legendary Marvel Super Hero “Iron Man”, reuniting director Jon Favreau and Oscar nominee Robert Downey Jr. In Iron Man 2, the world is aware that billionaire inventor Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) is the armored Super Hero Iron Man. Under pressure from the government, the press and the public to share his technology with the military, Tony is unwilling to divulge the secrets behind the Iron Man armor because he fears the information will slip into the wrong hands. With Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow), and James “Rhodey” Rhodes (Don Cheadle) at his side, Tony forges new alliances and confronts powerful new forces.

Iron Man 2 arrives in theaters on May 7, 2010.

Kiss Release ‘Modern Day Delilah’ Video!

CANADA/

I don’t rock and roll every night and I don’t party every day, but I do surf the web night and day looking for interracial porn and deals on electronics. And,  that’s exactly how I came across the new music video “Modern Day Delilah” from heavy metal grandpas Kiss.

The video starts off with a tip of the hat to old Godzilla movies—or possibly the Stones (“Love is Strong”)—before getting down to what the band does best: performance. Man, it’s good to see these guys can still rock out, swing from the rafters, and spit blood … although at their age that could just be tuberculosis.

Check out the video:

Kiss are currently touring in support of their new disc Sonic Boom.

Gore & Good Times: ‘Cabin Fever 2: Spring Fever’ is Sick!

poster

Director Ti West (House of the Devil) has got some big eyebrows to fill. His new film Cabin Fever 2: Spring Fever is the sequel to Eli Roth’s gleefully gross, flesh-eating-virus frightener Cabin Fever. Released in 2003, Fever marked Roth’s directorial debut and quickly established him as the new face of horror, a distinction he would go on to cement with 2005’s sleeper hit Hostel.

cabin

West, however, is no slouch. The young director has been generating a good amount of buzz for his satanic chiller House of the Devil and, judging by this just-released trailer, proves to be just as sick as Roth. Check it out:

Cabin Fever 2: Spring Fever arrives on DVD and Blu–ray disc on Feb. 16 from Lionsgate Home Entertainment. Bonus features include audio commentary, gag reel, and a BTS featurette. An unrated version of the film will also be released.
