‘Iron Man 2’ First Official Trailer Is Balls-Out Good!

iron-man-2-poster

OK, I’m guessing that, if you have a penis and acne, you probably caught the first official Iron Man 2 trailer the minute it hit the web. But, for those of you that have jobs and female companionship, here it is to enjoy at your leisure:

Why do superhero movies always have like 50 added heroes and villains in their sequels? It’s ridiculous. All you need is one bad guy per film and maybe one new hot chick in vinyl and thigh-high boots. Anything more than that is overkill. Even the Dark Knight, arguably the best comic book movie ever made, walked the line by throwing Two-Face into the mix.

Still, I gotta admit, this trailer looks pretty bad-ass. Guess, I’ll be in line come May 7.

Ay! Caramba: An ‘Undocumented’ Test Screening Review! Alona Tal Stars!

alona5

Warner Bros. held a test screening on Tuesday for director Chris Peckover’s sure to be controversial thriller Undocumented. I was fortunate enough to be in attendance and, while I can’t discuss the film at length (it’s still a work-in-progress), I will say this: Peckover is one sick bastard … and that’s good news for horror fans.

OK … I’ll say a little more.

Undocumented follows a group of young filmmakers, led by producer Liz (Alona Tal) and director Travis (Scott Mechlowicz), as they document the hardships faced by Mexican immigrants living illegally in the United States. Fueled by ambition and fist-pumping ideals, they collect hard luck stories from poor, undocumented workers and set out to expose their abusive American employers. Things go terribly wrong, however, when they decide to travel into Mexico to film a group of immigrants as they cross the border into New Mexico with the help of a “coyote.”

(Update: To see photos from the movie, click here)

b

Ambushed by a group of vigilante “patriots,” the filmmakers are taken hostage and then forced to document the torture and murder of the captured immigrants. The patriots are as zealous as they are cruel and have a very specific purpose in mind for the footage being shot.

The torture scenes, though not overly graphic, are intense and emotionally jarring. Unlike the Saw films—where it’s fun to watch Jigsaw’s victims get maimed and slaughtered in creative ways—Undocumented is one of those rare horror flicks that makes you care about the characters, which in turn makes their torment almost unbearable (yea, I said almost).

The actors, lead and supporting, really drive the drama home. Yancey Arias turns in an especially devastating performance as Alberto, a goofy and well-intentioned husband/father trying to keep his family safe.

GOP CONVENTION IMMIGRATION

Undocumented also benefits from a taut script written by Peckover and Joe Peterson. The dialogue is so good in this movie—not in a Tarantino showoff-y kind of way, but in a very authentic manner. From the patriots’ hate speak to the tension-filled exchanges between Travis and Liz (they share a romantic past) to the playful ribbing between camera man (Greg Serano) and boom guy (Kevin Weisman)—every conversation and reaction is believable and engaging. And, the humor is especially wicked and sometimes highly inappropriate (did I just laugh at a condom joke during a vicious torture bit? WTF is wrong with me?).

A couple of additional notes:

Despite its docu-drama angle, the film never lingers too long during its shaky-cam and infrared moments, making the technique all the more effective (yea, I’m looking at you Oren Peli).

And, finally, I regret to inform you all that Alona Tal (“Supernatural”) does not appear nude in the film.

Tara Reid Goes Topless in Playboy!

taraplayboy

B-movie queen Tara Reid shows off her publicly maligned melons in the upcoming Jan/Feb issue of Playboy magazine. The 33-year-old actress appears topless in a six-page spread aimed at silencing her detractors. To see a leaked photo from the shoot, go here.

She tells Entertainment Tonight:

A part of the reason I did Playboy was because there’s been so much controversy with my body. I wanted to show everyone, ‘Okay, look at it — this is what it looks like. Leave me alone now.’ And I’m really happy with it.

Reid’s breasts became popular tabloid fodder after a 2004 red carpet boob-slip at a P. Diddy party revealed her botched up boob job to the media.

I'm sure P. Diddy still hit it.

I'm sure P. Diddy still hit it.

Says Reid:

When I went down [Diddy’s] carpet and the dress fell, I just had my first surgery so I didn’t even feel it … It was a botched surgery so I really wouldn’t want anyone to see that. Then I got a better one and I got healed and I’m good now. But no one wants to say that I’m healed or good. They always want to show that bad picture from 10 years ago.

Reid underwent reconstructive surgery in 2006 to repair the damage done to her breasts and to remove the scars left on her stomach after a similarly bungled liposuction procedure. Unfortunately, her vagina was left perfectly intact during those old surgeries and will, therefore, not be displayed in the pictorial.

Reid is ironically best known for her role as the virginal Vicky Lathum in the 1999 comedy American Pie. However, in recent years, she has starred in a string of direct-to-video horror flicks, including Vipers, Incubus, Alone in the Dark, Devil’s Pond, and The Crow: Wicked Prayer.

This is Xerxes! Frank Miller Preps ‘300’ Prequel!

frank-miller-eva-mendes

Graphic novelist Frank Miller (300, Sin City) is currently at work on a prequel to the 2007 swords-&-sandals epic 300. Entitled Xerxes, the story is set ten years prior to the Battle of Thermopylae.

Miller tells the LA Times:

It’s the Battle of Marathon through my lens. I’ve finished the plot and I’m getting started on the artwork.

Xerxes succeeded his father Darius the Great as ruler of the Persian Empire in 486 BC, four years after the defeat at Marathon. He was portrayed by Rodrigo Santoro (“Lost”) in the film 300. It’s my guess that Miller’s prequel will follow Xerxes’ journey to the throne.

300 director Zach Snyder has already expressed interest in directing the project, though nothing is official as of yet. 300 has grossed over $450 million worldwide.

(UPDATE: PREQUEL GETS NEW TITLE & DIRECTOR)

Looks like director Christopher Nolan (The Dark Knight, Momento) will mess with our heads again with his upcoming mind-control thriller Inception.  The impressive cast is led by Leonardo DiCaprio and includes Ellen Page, Joseph Gordan-Levitt, Cillian Murphy, Marion Cotillard, Ken Watanabe, Tom Hardy, and Michael Cain.

DiCaprio plays a business man involved in a process that allows him access into people’s minds and dreams. Things get complicated, however, when a rival (Watanabe) begins to blackmail him. The film opens in theaters on July 16, 2010.

Rob Halford is Hell-Bent for Christmas!

winter

The tree may be trimmed and the stockings hung, but Judas Priest front man Rob Halford has got another thing coming this holiday season. The Metal God behind such punishing, headbanging albums as British Steel, Screaming for Vengeance, and Ram it Down has released Halford 3: Winter Songs, a collection of beloved Christmas covers and original material.

rh

Accused of breaking the law of heavy metal convention, Halford tells Blurt Online:

… people have asked me if I think metalheads will be a bit turned off by this, and I think, no, not really. I mean, these songs are around us all the time, and they were around me when I was a kid growing up. I think that whether you believe in the religious message or not is irrelevant, quite frankly. They’re just great songs, aren’t they? They’re wonderful songs, and that’s all that really matters. On a personal level, they do mean a lot to me. That’s just the way I am.

I think you have to be fearless as a musician. You can’t sit around wondering what this person or that person is going to think. What’s the point? No matter what you do, whether you’re writing a song, making a movie, writing a book or whatever, you’re just driven by your own ideas and fantasies and dreams, aren’t you?

It never crossed my mind that the album was a risk. It never crossed my mind that it might blow up in my face just because I was relating to the music in a really sincere, genuine way. You have to empathize with the lyrics of “O Come, All Ye Faithful” and “We Three Kings” – you’ve got to believe in what you’re singing. And as long as it’s coming from the right place when you’re performing it, that’s all that matters.

Winter Songs include renditions of these timeless Christmas classics: “We Three Kings,” “Come All Ye Faithful,” “Oh, Holy Night,” “What Child is This,” “Light of the World,” and “Oh Come O Come Emanuele.” Original tracks include “Winter Song” and “Get Into the Spirit.”

Asked if he sang Christmas carols as a kid, Halford responds:

Oh yeah. The funny thing is that, ironically enough, when I was a little kid at school I actually sang “We Three Kings” in a Christmas nativity play – dressed up as one of the kings. Is that bizarre or what? I didn’t even think about it until after I’d recorded it and my sister Sue reminded me. I showed her a list of the songs we’d done and she said, “You’ve done ‘We Three Kings’? You did that one 50 years ago!” And I thought, “Oh my God, history’s repeating itself.”

I don’t know how I feel about this. Personally, I love Christmas songs. However, I have a feeling that, after years of devil worship and homosexual butt-sex, Halford is simply trying to atone for his sins. I just hope, for his sake, God isn’t a Ripper Owens fan.

Just Because: Dexter’s Julie Benz

dex

Looks like the season finale for Showtime’s “Dexter” broke all sorts of ratings records for the network. The innovative series continues to be one of the best written and acted shows on television. So, why haven’t I written much up on season 4? Because I haven’t seen it!

Unlike Perez Hilton or the fat guy at Ain’t it Cool News, I’m a financially-humble blogger who just can’t afford both HBO and Showtime. But, as luck would have it, my cable provider is hosting a free Showtime trial this week so I will finally catch up to my favorite serial killer this side of Patrick Bateman.

So, in the meantime, I’m posting these pictures of Julie Benz (Dexter’s wife) taken at a TV Guide Hot List party last month.

julie3

The 37-year-old actress is definitely a highlight of the show and has appeared in the horror flicks: Saw 5, Held Hostage, 8MM 2, Shriek If You Know What I Did Last Friday the Thirteenth, and Satan’s School for Girls.

julie

Benz has also starred on the television spook shows: “Angel,” “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” and “Roswell.”
