‘Paranormal Activity’ Arrives on DVD/Blu-ray in December

Paramount Template

Paramount Home Entertainment has set a Dec. 29 release date for the standard DVD and Blu-ray disc editions of its runaway supernatural hit Paranormal Activity. Written and directed by newcomer Oren Peli for an estimated budget of $15,000, Paranormal Activity has grossed over a $100 million domestically and is nominated for a People’s Choice award.

The DVD and Blu-ray editions are shockingly low on extras, but do include an unrated version of the film complete with alternate ending. Fans who registered with the film’s website earlier this month will also find their names listed on the movie’s credit reel.

Peli is currently at work on his second film Area 51. Budgeted at $5 million, Area 51 exposes the “found footage” captured by three teens during their break in into the notorious Area 51 at Nellis Air Force Base in Nevada. A copy of the script was accidentally leaked two weeks ago.

Boxing Champ Manny Pacquiao Scores Knockout with ‘Wapakman’

manny

Boxing champ Manny Pacquiao takes a jab at acting in director Topel Lee’s superhero-actioner Wapakman. The Solar Films release will have its premier this December at the Metro Manila Film Festival.

Wapakman stars Pacquiao as an ordinary citizen turned superhero in the face of extraordinary evil. The dark forces he battles come in many shapes and sizes, including men made of magma, busty babes with supersonic bras, and giant crustaceans (much bigger than what you get at Red Lobster).

Take a look:

Pacquiao also goes toe-to-toe with WWE star Dave Batista in the film. Pussycat Doll Nicole Scherzinger was once rumored to be attached to the project, but that role has now gone to sexy Filipino actress Ruffae Mai Quinto.

Wapakman is Pacquiao’s second go at movie stardom. His debut, Anak ng Kumander, for director Jose Balagtas was a miserable failure … most likely due to its lack of monster crabs.

Megan Fox Plays a Prostitute in ‘Jonah Hex.’ Are You Hooked Yet?

Megan

Warner Bros. supernatural-western Jonah Hex is currently in post production.

Originally introduced in 1977 by DC Comics, Jonah Hex is a former Confederacy officer turned outlaw bounty hunter. The film, directed by Jimmy Hayward, finds Hex hired by the U.S. military to stop a diabolical madman and his army of evil in exchange for his freedom.

Tentatively scheduled for a June 2010 release, Hex stars Josh Brolin (Grindhouse) as the facially disfigured antihero, John Malkovich (Mutant Chronicles, Beowulf) as his nemesis Quenten Tumbull, and Megan Fox (Jennifer’s Body, Transformers) as bordello babe Leila.

Fox described her character during a press conference at this year’s Comic Con as:

The love interest I guess you could call it, but not very conventional. Leila is this prostitute that Jonah Hex has been visiting for years. They have a special relationship. He doesn’t want to allow her to get to close to him because everyone that he loves dies. She doesn’t really understand that concept, so she’s part of this push and pull sort of situation.

Jean Claude Van Damme, Dolph Lundgren Return in ‘Universal Soldier: Regeneration’

universalsoldier3

Are you ready for THREE times the VanDamage?

International superstar Jean Claude Van Damme (Time Cop, Cyborg), fresh off his critically acclaimed turn in JCVD, is set to kick the straight-to-DVD market on its ass with the Jan. 5 release of Universal Soldier: Regeneration. The Muscles from Brussels reprises his role of reanimated killing machine Pvt. Luc DeVeraux for director John Hyams’ ambitious $15 million installment to the unstoppable franchise originally launched by disaster-master Roland Emmerich (2012, Independence Day) in 1992.

The sci-fi, rock’em-sock’em pic also sees the return of action star Dolph Lundgren (The Punisher, Masters of the Universe) as Van Damme’s bio-mechanical nemesis Sgt. Andrew Scott. Lundgren, who rose to fame as Ivan “I will Break You” Drago in 1985’s Rocky IV, is on the comeback fast-track with roles in Universal Soldier: Regeneration and Sylvester Stallone’s upcoming geriatric shoot’em up The Expendables.

Synopsis for Universal Soldier: Regeneration reads as follows:

When a team of former Soviet radicals seizes Chernobyl and threatens to unleash a lethal cloud of radioactive gas one hundred times deadlier than Hiroshima and Nagasaki combined, the US military brings in a bio-mechanically enhanced super soldier, Luc Deveraux (Jean-Claude Van Damme), to foil the plot. As Deveraux fights his way into the plant, he faces off with his now revived former nemesis, Andrew Scott (Dolph Lundgren), and a newly ‘updated’ Next Generation Unisol (former UFC Heavyweight Champion Andrei Arlovski), in a battle of battles, and must save the day.

But, if you want to hear it from Drago Dolph himself, check out his interview with gordonandthewhale.com:
