‘Downton Abbey’ Star Lily James Toplines Adaptation of ‘Pride and Prejudice and Zombies’

Lily James (“Downton Abbey,” Wrath of the Titans) is set to star as Elizabeth Bennet in the long-delayed film adaptation of author Seth Grahame-Smith’s Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, an outrageous re-imagining of the Jane Austin novel Pride and Prejudice.

Slated to roll camera in September, the film follows Bennet as she wrestles with the issues of morality, manners, and the undead in 19th century London. Burr Steers (Charlie St. Cloud, Igby Goes Down) directs from a script he wrote with acclaimed writer David O. Russell (American Hustle, Silver Linings Playbook).

Natalie Portman serves as a producer on the Cross Creek Pictures release. Pride and Prejudice and Zombies was published in 2009 by Quirk Books. The novel garnered positives reviews and cracked the New York Times bestseller list.
