It Follows star Maika Monroe is set to star in Roland Emmerich’s Independence Day 2, the sequel to the master of disaster’s epic 1996 alien invasion classic. Monroe replaces Mae Whitman (The Duff) as the President’s daughter and Liam Hemsworth’s (Hunger Games) love interest.

Monroe’s casting doesn’t come without controversy. While no one doubts the young up-and-comer’s talent and growing buzz, many insiders believe she was given the role by 20 Century Fox to remedy the fact that Whitman, who played the President’s young daughter in the original film, lacks stroke-value.

Well… duh. Sure, everyone speaks about a world where looks don’t matter, but that’s just not truthful. We all notice when an attractive person is involved with a less attractive person. We judge and wonder how that came about. Salon.com and its ilk want to make it a sexist thing, but it’s not.

Men have dealt with it for years. What’s that hot chick doing with that old, fat dude? Must be money. But if that hot chick is with a Liam Hemsworth-looking dude, they don’t question the attraction. Personally, I think they still could have recast hotter. Was Megan Fox not around?

Releasing June 24, 2016, Independence Day 2 co-stars Jessie Usher (InAPPropriate Comedy), Charlotte Gainsbourg (Antichrist), Joey King (The Conjuring) and original stars Bill Pullman, Jeff Goldblum, Judd Hirsch, and Vivica A. Fox.
