A&E has announced the upcoming fifth season of “Bates Motel” as its last. The acclaimed show is a re-imagining of Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho from producers Carlton Cuse (”LOST”) and Kerry Ehrin’s (”Friday Night Lights”).
The sad news was made during this year’s SDCC and brought with it a surprise casting announcement: pop singer Rihanna will play Marion Crane, the infamous Norman Bates victim murdered in the shower and played in the original Psycho film by Janet Leigh.
Cuse said:
We wanted to thrust the iconic role into a contemporary spotlight and redefine it in a meaningful and exciting new way. We also heard Rihanna was a fan of the show, and we were huge fans of hers, so it was the perfect collision of creativity and fate.
Well … at least it wasn’t Lady GaGa. Rihanna’s acting creds include a small role in the 2012 flop Battleship and cameos in This Is the End, Annie (2014), and Bring It On: All or Nothing. She’s sold more than 200 million records and won 8 Grammys.
Like Sharon Stone, Margot Robbie owes her breakthrough success to her lovely vagina. Since going full-frontal in Martin Scorsese’s Wolf of Wall Street, the gorgeous Aussie – soon to be seen in Suicide Squad – is all over Hollywood.
It will most likely take a stupidly amazing Oscar-worthy script about retards, ugly women, or gay-cowboys-eating-pudding to ever glimpse her monkey on film again, but it’s always a pleasure to see her. Oh, and speaking of monkeys, Robbie is set to star in Uni’s adaptation of Matt Ruff’s 2007 novel “Bad Monkeys.”
Robbie will play a woman arrested for murder and believed to be insane for defending her actions as part of a campaign launched by a secret organization to battle evil. The film is produced by Bluegrass Films and Robbie’s company LuckyChap.
The first trailer for season seven of AMC’s “The Walking Dead” is a punishing three-minute peek into what promises to be the show’s grimmest year yet. Set to premiere Oct. 23, the new season picks up with the death of what creator Robert Kirkman calls a beloved character.
Season six ended with new heavy Negan bludgeoning one of our heroes with a bat. Who was killed will be revealed in the premiere episode. Meanwhile, fans have been agonizing over who is biting the dust: Rick, Carl, Michonne, Daryl, Abraham, Sasha, Eugene, Rosita, Aaron, Maggie, or Glenn.
We too have been tormented by this turn of events and figured we’d break down the choices and share our pick with you (no comic spoilers). But, first, lets watch the trailer:
Okay, the death must be of a beloved character. That eliminates Aaron, Rosita, and Sasha. Aaron is likable, but being gay is so far his only distinguishable trait. Rosita is hot and has some fire in her, but that’s about it. Even Abraham ditches her sexy ass. As for Sasha, she has suffered a lot of loss and her story arch appears to be done, but her death just wouldn’t be meaty.
Abraham and Eugene have crossed over to beloved territory. The duo are comedy gold together and apart. Abraham is brave, forthcoming, and outspoken with a ridiculous knack for coining new, colorful phrases (dolphin-smooth, “Who’s Deanna?”). Eugene is a redeemed coward and liar, whose efforts to do right really pulled the heartstrings this season.
Abraham and Eugene are both strong possibilities. Either of their deaths would bum viewers out… but, let’s face it, that would be safe. Sad, but safe. The show has promised a big death. That means it has to be someone from the inner circle – our original crew: Rick, Carl, Daryl, Michonne, Maggie, Glenn.
Rick or Carl … nope. Sure, Rick has been a bit unhinged and his idea to attack Negan’s crew got them in this mess, but this moment will serve to ground him again. If Carl were killed, Rick would go bonkers and get himself killed too. That’d be two dead characters. Keeping Carl alive is also a good way for Negan to keep Rick under his control.
Daryl? That would upset a lot of women. AMC has already given actor Norman Reedus a new show (“Ride”). Is that consolation for a job well done? Nah. Daryl has unresolved business with Dwight, the thieving, ungrateful asshole who stole his ride and weapon and shot him last season.
Michonne? Her romance with Rick puts her in danger – all of Rick’s loves have so far met gruesome ends. Michonne has also come back from the personal hell of isolation she had put herself through after being harden by the zombie apocalypse. She would die redeemed. But, no. Negan likes to keep the strong to produce for him. That could save Michonne, Rick, Daryl, Abraham, Sasha, and possibly Glenn.
So… Glenn. He has cheated death numerous times, including an especially controversial near-miss this past season that producers milked, consequentially upsetting fans who felt it was a major cheat despite no one ever wanting Glenn dead. Most people, both fans of the show and comics, have marked Glenn for death, but that alone could be why he survives… again! But, what about Glenn’s gorgeous wife Maggie?
Yup. She’s dead meatballs. Maggie is ill and in a very weakened state. She is why Rick and the gang threw her in the RV and headed out to find a doctor (why not bring him to her, we don’t know). Negan doesn’t need the sick. Maggie’s death would kill Glenn in the worse way imaginable… on the inside. Glenn has been the show’s conscious even during the times Rick has gone mad. If Maggie and their unborn child dies, Glenn would be destroyed. It be worse for him than dying and it would totally rip our hearts out.
So, there you have it. Our pick to meet Negan’s bat, Lucille, is Maggie, the last of the Greene family.
Warner Bros. has released the first official trailer for Wonder Woman, starring Gal Gadot as DC Comics’ iconic Amazonian Princess. Gadot made her debut as Wonder Woman in this year’s much maligned blockbuster Batman v Superman.
When Gadot was first announced as Wonder Woman, her casting drew ire from those who believed her lack of boobs would tarnish the traditionally busty character. Opinion changed when images of Gadot in her skimpy costume emerged. Now, this trailer should assuage all anxiety over the matter.
The trailer for Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures’ epic King Kong re-imagining Kong: Skull Island debuted at this year’s SDCC. Call us a monkey’s uncle, but it looks all kinds of awesome. The story follows a team of explorers on an uncharted Pacific Island unaware they are in Kong’s house.
Peter Jackson set the monkey bars pretty damn high with his beautiful 2005 remake of King Kong so it will be interesting to see what lesser known critical darling Jordan Vogt-Roberts brings to the table…. but it better be bananas!
The trailer for the upcoming Fox series “The Exorcist” is online and damn if it’s not compelling. Based on William Blatty’s classic 1971 novel, the show follows a small parish priest and a modern day Templar Knight as they fatefully join forces to fight an evil ripping apart a Chicago family as it grows stronger.
Alfonso Herrera (“Sense8”) plays the young parish priest and Ben Daniels (House of Cards) the Templar Knight. The tormented family are stunners Brianne Howey (“Scream Queens”) and Hannah Kasulka (“True Blood”), Alan Ruck (Ferris Bueller), and oh-shit-what-happened-to Geena Davis (Thelma & Louise).
Warner Bros. presented a new Suicide Squad trailer at this year’s SDCC and it promises quite the thrill ride. An adaptation of the DC Comic about a group of super-villains brought together by a government agency for a suicide mission, the film is directed by David Ayer (Fury) and releases Aug. 5.
The new trailer is heavy on Will Smith’s Deadshot character, but does provide cool new footage and Margot Robbie ass cheeks, which is the only thing rivaling curiosity over Jared Leto’s take on the Joker in the wake of Heath Ledger’s Oscar-winning performance as the notorious villain.
Warner Bros. debuted at SDCC the first official trailer for DC Films’ eagerly anticipated superhero orgy Justice League. Zack Snyder (Batman v Superman) is at the helm with Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, and Gal Gadot playing the Batman, Man of Steel, and Wonder Woman.
The trailer follows billionaire vigilante Bruce Wayne tracking down freaks with unique abilities to form a union of crime-fighting, emotionally unstable, and flamboyant superheroes. If Clatto were billionaires, we’d just track down Bolivian blow and Thai hookers. But, hey, no one murdered our folks; we’re normal.
A banned San Diego Comic-Con trailer has gone online for season two of Starz’s new original series, “Ash vs Evil Dead.” The show is produced by Raimi, Rob Tapert, and Bruce Campbell, who reprises his role as beloved antihero Ashley J. Williams.
The trailer was deemed too graphic for Comic-Con, but looks totally appropriate for the Evil Dead fans that have made the show a hit. It’s gory, violent, a little sexy, and more fun than you can shake a severed limb at! Can’t wait for October.
Universal Pictures has released a new trailer for DreamWorks’ adaptation of Paula Hawkins 2015 debut novel Girl On the Train. Emily Blunt toplines the erotic thriller as Rachel Watson, a barren, unemployed, and alcoholic divorcée hung up on her ex and obsessed with the perfect young couple living on his street.
Horror fans will recognize the female half of that young couple as Haley Bennett (pictured), star of 2008’s The Haunting of Molly Hartley. Bennett plays Megan Hipwell, nanny to Rachel’s ex’s new baby and all-around hottie.
