Thandie Newton has joined the large and impressive cast of HBO’s “Westworld,” a re-imagining of the 1973 sci-fi classic about androids run amok in an adult themed amusement park created for humans to indulge in their lust for blood and sex. Bad Robot (“LOST”) and Jonathan Nolan (“Person of Interest”) produce.
Newton will play Westworld brothel madam Maeve Millay. She co-stars with Anthony Hopkins, Ed Harris, James Marsden (X-Men: Days of Future Past), Rodrigo Santoro (300: Rise of an Empire), and stunners Evan Rachel Wood (“True Blood”), Angela Sarafyan (Breaking Dawn) and Ingrid Bolsø Berdal (Hercules).
Newton’s horror debut came in 1994 with Neil Jordan’s Interview with the Vampire. She has since starred in The Chronicles of Riddick, 2012, Vanishing on 7th Street, and Retreat. Newton can currently be seen on DirecTV’s cop drama “Rogue.”
Poiley Wood Entertainment has set an Oct. 31 VOD release date for Missionary, starring “House of Lies” stunner Dawn Olivieri as a married woman whose affair with a disturbed Mormon missionary leads to a fight for survival.
Missionary is helmed by Anthony DiBlasi, writer and director of the awesome 2009 adaptation of the Clive Barker short story Dread. Co-stars include Kip Pardue (Hostel: Part III), Mitch Ryan (Cabin Fever: Patien Zero). and J. LaRose (Insidious).
Genre fans will recognize Olivieri from her role as Mystic Falls newscaster Andie Star on “The Vampire Diaries” and as evolved human Lydia on “Heroes.” The model-turned-actress also starred in Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke’s rock-n-roll thriller Plush, and voiced Lucy Kuo in the video game inFamous 2.
Icon has released a trailer for actress Jennifer Kent’s directorial debut The Babadook. The supernatural thriller stars Essie Davis (Matrix ReLoaded) as the widowed mother of an emotionally trouble six-year-old who is convinced a storybook boogeyman is out to kill them.
While the first trailer is still more disturbing, one thing is clear: that’s one terrible mom! Who reads that stuff to a six-year-old? Did they run out of Paddington Bear books in London? Bad, mom! Bad, bad, bad! Anyway, The Babadook arrives in the U.K. on Oct. 24 and in the U.S. on Nov. 28. Take the kids!
“Jersey Shore” alumna Jenni Farley is looking to JWoww horror fans with Jersey Shore Massacre, a silly new slasher from Farley’s production shingle JWoww Productions. Arriving on Blu-ray and DVD Aug. 22, the flick pokes fun at MTV’s “Jersey Shore,” and promises plenty of meathead and bimbo blood.
Jersey Shore Massacre finds a group of girlfriends and their douche bag suitors trapped in the woods with a mentally retarded serial killer out to kill them one by one. The film stars Danielle Dallacco, Angelica Boccella (Blood Ties), Nicole Rutigliano (Wolf of Wall Street), Ashley Mitchell, and porn star Ron Jeremy.
Backdoor Teen Mom Farrah Abraham is set to make her feature film debut in a genre that doesn’t involve not shitting right for a week. The MTV reality star tuned porn star has been cast in Axeman 2: Overkill, a sequel to the 2013 slasher Axeman at Cutter’s Creek.
Abraham will play Fannie Rae Baker, an Evangelical Christian on her way to a Christian couples getaway with her husband and friends when an ax-wielding maniac crosses their path, hellbent on murder. Cameras are slated to roll on Sept. 29.
Abraham came to fame as one of the horrible young mothers on the MTV reality series “Teen Mom.” In 2013, Vivid Video released her pro-am sex tape Farrah Superstar: Backdoor Teen Mom, in which she took porn star James Deen’s cock up her ass. The sequel, Farrah 2: Backdoor and More, came out this year.
IFC Midnight has released a trailer for The Pact 2, the eagerly anticipated sequel to the 2012 sleeper hit from writer and director Nicholas McCarthy. Written and directed by Dallas Hallam and Patrick Horvath, The Pact 2 stars Camilla Luddington (“Californication”) and returning players Haley Hudson and Caity Lotz.
Luddington plays June Abbott, an L.A. woman tormented by a string of violent dreams in which people are brutally slaughtered by the late Judas Killer. Things get worse when she learns of a copycat killer and starts to see the murders from his P.O.V. It arrives on VOD Sept. 5 and in selected theaters Oct. 10.
No matter how hardcore horror fans may be, there is always a particular violence that disturbs them to the core. For some it’s the murder of a child, for others the sacrifice of an animal. For us… it’s the death of scantly clad women, whether they be strippers, prostitutes, or globe-trotting tourists turned webcam models.
That is why we are troubled by IFC Midnight’s new trailer for Cam2Cam, a slasher from director Joel Soisson (Children of the Corn: Genesis) about an American webcam model in Bangkok trying to stay alive amidst a group of online sex entertainers harboring a demented secret.
Cam2Cam stars Tammin Sursok (“Pretty Little Liars”), Sarah Bonrepaux (ABCs of Death), Jade Tailor (Don’t Pass Me By), and Alessa Aichinger (Vamp Bikers). It arrives in selected theaters and on VOD Aug. 22.
