Disney star Bella Thorne continues to shake up her career by taking on roles in horror. Her new venture is Home Invasion, a Voltage Pictures thriller about a family held captive by home intruders.

The film is directed by newcomer Sean Carter and penned by first-time scribe Joseph Dembner. Deadline reports that Thorne will play Jamie, a disillusioned teenager with a secret.

The 15-year-old’s previous horror creds include the teen supernatural thriller Forget Me Not and The Seer. She is best known for playing aspiring pop singer CeCe Jones on the Disney Channel’s “Shake It Up.”

Arnold Schwarzenegger is getting a little bit of sunshine for his upcoming zombie film Maggie. THR reports that Abigail Breslin has signed on to play the titular character in a story about a father and his undead daughter. Henry Hobson makes his feature directorial debut with a Black List script by John Scott 3.

Breslin steps in for Chloe Grace Moretz, who bailed due to scheduling issues. Schwarzenegger is producing the film with a bunch of rich people.

Sixteen-year-old Breslin made her movie acting debut at the age of five in M. Night Shyamalan’s 2002 alien invasion thriller Signs. An Oscar-nominated performance in Little Miss Sunshine followed in 2006. Her genre creds include 2009’s Zombieland, this year’s sleeper Halle Berry hit The Call and the upcoming Ender’s Game.

Anchor Bay Films has set a Sept. 10 DVD and Blu-ray release date for Parallel Media and Project 8 Films’ long delayed supernatural frightener The Black Waters of Echo’s Pond, starring Danielle Harris, Robert Patrick, Mircea Monroe (“Episodes”) and twins Elise and Electra Avellan (pictured).

The Black Waters of Echo’s Pond follows a group of nine friends that violently turn against each other after playing a mysterious and ancient game during their holiday on a deserted  island. The 2010 film is directed by Gabriel Bologna (30,000 Leagues Under the Sea).

Warner Bros. has released a new and more intense trailer for Gravity, a sci-fi drama from acclaimed director Alfonso Cuaron (Children of Men), starring Academy Award winners Sandra Bullock and George Clooney as astronauts drifting aimlessly through space after a routine spacewalk goes terribly wrong.

Bullock is Dr. Ryan Stone, a medical engineer whose first shuttle mission is with retiring astronaut Matt Kowalsky, played by Clooney. The trailer shows the disaster that separates the two and leads to what I’m hoping are Open Water-like thrills in space. Gravity opens Oct.4.

The 2013 San Diego Comic-Con is now behind us, but we how can we truly move on without taking a look at model and cos-play enthusiast Adrianne Curry’s costume. Last year, she got booted from the convention floor for showing off too much ass as Aeon Flux.

This time out, Curry did a regrettably better job of containing her offending cheeks, but still managed to raise more than a few eyebrows as Mortal Kombat villainess Mileena. She also brought back up with fitness model Alicia Marie as assassin Jade.

“United States of Tara” alumna Rosemarie DeWitt is set to star in producer Sam Raimi’s planned remake of Tobe Hooper’s 1982 supernatural blockbuster Poltergeist. Gil Kenan (Monster House) is attached to direct the film, written by David Lindsay-Abaire (Oz the Great and Powerful, Rise of the Guardians).

Poltergeist told the story of a family whose young daughter is abducted into another dimension by angry spirits. The family soon learns that their home is built over a cemetery where bodies remain buried and unable to rest in peace due to their loud footsteps (damn upstairs neighbors).

According to Deadline, DeWitt will step into the role of the family’s strong and protective matriarch, memorably played by JoBeth Williams in the original. No horror creds to DeWitt’s name, but she did co-star in last year’s alien invasion comedy The Watch.

NBC has released an extended music video trailer for “Dracula,” a ten-episode miniseries built around the legendary vampire and his quest for blood and revenge. Jonathan Rhys Meyers (”The Tudors”) stars alongside Jessica De Gouw (”Arrow”), Katie McGrath (”Merlin”) and Victoria Smurfit (Bulletproof Monk).

Set in 1890’s London, the show follows Dracula (Meyers) as he plots vengeance on the descendants of the people who ruined his life many centuries ago. Masquerading as an American entrepreneur, he wreaks havoc up until he meets Mina Murray (De Gouw), a dead-ringer for his deceased wife.

The CW premiered at SDCC a new three-minute trailer for season two of its hit superhero series “Arrow,” an adaptation of DC Comics’ “Green Arrow,” starring Stephen Amell as the hooded crime fighter and Katie Cassidy as his former flame Dinah “Laurel” Lance.

The trailer gives fans a look at show-killer Summer Glau as mysterious business woman Isabel Rochev and provides an exciting introduction to Dinah Lance’s ass-kicking alter ego Black Canary. No word on whether Cassidy will play Black Canary or if the role is going to Caity Lotz in a new story twist.

If you caught the first season of NBC’s “Hannibal” this year, you know the series is every bit as dark and brutal as Thomas Harris’ “Red Dragon,” the 1981 novel that introduced renowned psychiatrist and cannibalistic psychopath Hannibal Lecter , and on which the show is based on.

Executive producer Bryan Fuller (“Pushing Daisies,” “Dead Like Me”) and star Hugh Dancy, who plays tormented profiler Will Graham, were on hand at SDCC this past week, presenting among many treats an unexpected gag-reel.

The daily music performer lineup has been announced for Rob Zombie’s Great American Nightmare, a haunted Halloween attraction and live concert event taking place Oct. 10-Nov. 2 at the Fairplex in Pomona, CA.

Performing at the haunt will be artists representing a variety of musical genres: hard rock/heavy metal, alternative-rock, electronic dance and Latin. Zombie will headline the event’s closing night with special guests Eagles of Death Metal and Powerman 5000, the metal outfit fronted by Zombie’s brother, Spider.

Rob Zombie’s Great American Nightmare will feature bloodcurdling mazes based on three of Zombie’s horror films: Lords Of Salem Total Black Out, The Haunted World Of El Superbeasto 3D and Haunt Of 1,000 Corpses.
