MORTAL KOMBAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

An eight-minute short film for director Kevin Tancharoen’s Mortal Kombat: Rebirth has hit the web. The dark and ultra-violent short provides real-world origin stories for killers Reptile and Baraka, and introduces Michael Jai White (Sucker Punch) as Jax and Jeri Ryan (“Star Trek Voyeur”) as Sonya Blade.

The clip also gives us a glimpse at Scorpion and includes a balls-out fight between Johnny Cage and Baraka. This is good shit.

While there is no official word on whether Warner Bros. will move forward with a Hard-R film adaptation of Midway’s popular Mortal Kombat arcade fighter, the studio did announce its plans to relaunch the franchise earlier this year (pending legal disputes).

Personally, I think this short alone has already pulled a fatality move on the 1995 adaptation by Paul W.S. Anderson.
