Kim Dickens (“Sons of Anarchy,” “LOST”) is tapped to play the female lead in AMC’s tentatively titled “Cobalt,” the eagerly anticipated spinoff series to its ratings juggernaut “The Walking Dead.” She will play Nancy Tompkins, a former guidance counselor and single mom to an ambitious daughter and junkie son.

Written by “Walking Dead” creator Robert Kirkman and showrunner Dave Erickson, the spinoff is set in Los Angeles and takes place during the very same zombie apocalypse of the original “Walking Dead.”

Co-stars include Alycia Debnam-Carey (Into the Storm) and Frank Dillane (Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince) as Tompkins’ kids and Cliff Curtis (Colombiana) as her divorced teacher love interest. Cameras are slated to roll in early 2015.
