Warner Bros. has set a March 2, 2018 release date for Meg, a prehistoric shark thriller pitting action star Jason Statham  and Chinese stunner Fan Bingbing (X-Men: Days of Future Past) against a monstrous Megalodon discovered gobbling up scientists deep in the Pacific’s Mariana Trench.

Statham plays a former Navy captain and deep sea diver hired by Bingbing’s chief oceanographer to rescue her team of researchers trapped in the trench with the 70-foot beast when their submersible is damaged. The task is a suicide mission, but the Navy cap has already survived a previous encounter with Meg.

Meg is based on the 1997 Steve Alten novel “Meg: A Novel of Deep Terror” and adapted for the screen by director Jon Turtletaub (National Treasure).
