‘Last Exorcism’ Sequel News Will Make Your Head Spin!

the-last-exorcism-ashley-bell

Last Exorcism producer Eli Roth is promising an R-rated sequel for his 2010 sleeper hit about a priest who encounters a real demon-possessed soul while shooting a documentary meant to debunk exorcisms.

He tells Deadline:

The first film worked great as a PG-13 psychological film, but now we want to go R-rated and show the true horror of what this subject matter offers.

Obviously with the title of the first one, we had not planned on a sequel, but we love the story and subject matter and had what we feel is an inspired idea to continue it.

Production on the sequel is set to begin next month in New Orleans. The story will pick up three months after the events of the original and will find lead Ashley Bell reprising her role as the possessed Nell Sweetzer.

Helming the StudioCanal financed project will be Ed Gass-Donnelly (This Beautiful City) from a script by Damien Chazelle (Guy and Madeline on a Park Bench).

The Last Exorcism was produced for a little under $2 million and went on to earn over $65 million in worldwide coin.

Ukrainian stunner Olga Kurylenko (pictured above) is starring opposite Tom Cruise and Andrea Riseborough (Never Let Me Go) in director Joseph Kosinski’s currently untitled follow-up to his 2010 feature film debut Tron: Legacy.

The Michael Arndt (Toy Story 3) scripted film, previously entitled Horizons and Oblivion, is set in a future where people live on cloud cities above an uninhabitable Earth. Cruise plays a repairman sent down to the abandoned planet to fix the drones that keep alien threats at bay.

Vera Farmiga Will Raise Your Spirits In ‘The Conjuring’

vera-farmiga-lingerie

Vera Farmiga (Source Code) and Patrick Wilson (Prometheus) have said I do to portraying married demonologists Ed and Lorraine Warren in New Line’s upcoming based-on-true-events frightener The Conjuring.

Written by Chad and Carey Hayes (Whiteout, House of Wax), the story follows the horrifying ordeal faced by the Perron family in 1970 after moving into a demon-possessed Rhode Island farmhouse.

Insidious and Saw director James Wan will helm the modestly-budgeted project, which is set to roll camera in North Carolina in March. Ghost hunter fans may recognize Ed and Lorraine Warren as the paranormal investigators called in to work the infamous Amityville Horror case of 1975.

You Guys Hurt George Lucas’ Feelings, No More ‘Star Wars’ Movies for You!

Stormtrooper-Lament

Star Wars creator George Lucas recently got his Jedi robes in a bunch while talking to the New York Times about the possibility of producing more Star Wars films. Wounded by the negative criticism from both press and fans over the disappointing prequels and his ongoing tinkering with the original trilogy, Lucas huffed-and-puffed like a Sith lord on a respirator.

He tells the NY Times:

Why would I make any more when everybody yells at you all the time and says what a terrible person you are?

On the Internet, all those same guys that are complaining I made a change are completely changing the movie. I’m saying: ‘Fine. But my movie, with my name on it, that says I did it, needs to be the way I want it.’

Lucas, I can feel your anger. It makes you stronger. Join me and together we will re-release all six Star Wars films in 3-D conversion, with blantant disregard to Han Solo-shot-first purists and even more CGI changes ::cough::cough:: … sorry, I always cough when impersonating the Emperor’s voice.

Star Wars: The Phantom Menace 3-D opens Feb. 10.

‘Deadgirl’ Sequel Remains Buried, But You Can Read the ‘Deadgirl 2’ Script Now!

Deadgirl-tied

Screenwriter Trent Haaga has posted online the completed script for Deadgirl 2, a sequel to his and directors Marcel Sarmiento and Gadi Harel’s controversial indie-frightener about a group of misfit teen boys who discover a beautiful naked female zombie chained in an abandoned insane asylum.

What follows is a morality play that splits childhood buddies Rickie and J.T., the latter of which believes he’s just won the Publishers Clearing House Sweepstakes of free poon. Plans for a Deadgirl sequel were talked about last year, but, sadly, it appears the project has been abandoned.

Haaga writes on his blog:

I always saw the original DEADGIRL as a condemnation of misogyny as opposed to being misogynous – the boys were the monsters, not the “monster” of the title. But a lot of people didn’t see it that way.

My idea for the sequel was to try and tell a story from the point of view of a female outcast and what would happen if she found the DEADGIRL this time … instead of using the DEADGIRL for the impetus of her sexual fantasies, what if she used the DEADGIRL for her revenge fantasies instead?

What I ended up writing could maybe be described as “Precious meets The Pit with a zombie attack dog. Maybe this movie would have sucked. Maybe people would have loved it. Who knows? It wouldn’t have hurt to at least try, but alas it wasn’t to be.

So as a special treat to my fans and blog readers and the fans of the first DEADGIRL, I’ve decided to let everyone who’s interested take a look at the un-produced screenplay.

Deadgirl is one of my all-time favorite horror movies. It’s beyond fucked up, but gripping and thought-provoking. The kind of film that can find your most repressed sinister inklings and immediately make you feel guilty enough to donate time and money to the local women’s shelter.

Liv Tyler Is Lost in Space Without a Morning-After Pill In ‘The Side Effect’

liv-tyler-leggy

Liv Tyler has signed on to star in director Ti West’s (House of the Devil) new sci-fi, psychological nightmare The Side Effect. Tyler will play the role of Catherine Rigby, a woman who inexplicably becomes pregnant while living alone in space for months as a test subject for a global pharmaceutical company.

She tells Deadline:

[Ti West] is a super-talented exciting young filmmaker. The role of Rigby is a fantastic character within a great thriller and I am looking forward to sinking my teeth into the part.

The Side Effect marks Tyler’s return to horror since starring in the truly frightening home-invasion slasher The Strangers in 2008. Additional genre creds include the Michael Bay disaster-thriller Armageddon,  Uni and Marvel’s 2008 redo of The Incredible Hulk, James Gunn’s superhero comedy Super and, of course, Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings trilogy.

The Side Effect, which will most likely be retitled as Hollywood big shot Steven Soderbergh is shooting a film with the same name, will be shopped at this year’s European Film Market.
