Season six of HBO’s epic Emmy-winning fantasy series “Game of Thrones” is proving to be quite a crowd pleaser. Not only did Jon Snow come back from the dead, Emilia Clarke went nude for the first time since the show’s third season in last week’s episode, “Book of the Stranger.”
The scene comes at the end of the episode when Clarke’s character, Daenerys Targaryen, sets the Dothraki leaders, who would have her raped by horses before bowing to her rule, ablaze, emerging from the flames gloriously nude.
Of course, Clarke’s much publicized refusal to go nude led fans to suspect the use of a body double. But, they were wrong and now we are all anything but unsullied.
I’d like to remind people the last time I took my clothes off was season 3. That was awhile ago. It’s now season 6. But this is all me, all proud, all strong. I’m just feeling genuinely happy I said ‘Yes.’ That ain’t no body double!
Paranormal Activity. Your Next. The Witch. It Follows. These are all enjoyable movies mainstream critics declared as absolutely terrifying and among the best the horror genre has to offer. One problem… none of those films were scary. They were good, creative and fun even. But frightening? No.
The problem, of course, is mainstream critics hate horror and don’t know shit about what makes a horror fan’s dark little heart skip. Don’t Breathe is the latest horror movie to be getting some of that sweet, sweet mainstream love, which would worry us more if Evil Dead remake director Fede Alvarez weren’t at the helm.
The story looks kinda silly, but definitely fun – kinda like the Rutger Hauer actioner Blind Fury (1989) meeting the Madeleine Stowe thriller Blink (1994). Stephan Lang (Avatar) plays the blind would-be victim of a home invasion led by troubled youth Jane Levy (Evil Dead), who clearly doesn’t see what’s coming.
“Game of Thrones'” very own Red Woman, Carice van Houten, brings the voodoo that she do to Incarnate, a supernatural thriller from Blumhouse and WWE Studios. The long gestating film stars Aaron Eckhart as a crippled exorcist hired by the Vatican to save a possessed boy from the demon that killed his own family.
Incarnate is directed by Brad Peyton (San Andreas) and written by Ronnie Christensen (Dark Tide). It’s slated for theatrical release Sept. 30, but a first trailer has gone online for your viewing pleasure.
Twentieth Century Fox has released a first trailer for its eagerly awaited movie adaptation of the Ubisoft video game Assassin’s Creed. Michael Fassbender plays Callum Lynch, a death row inmate and descendant of a secret society of assassins dedicated to stopping the Knights Templar.
A revolutionary technology allows for Callum to access his genetic memories and experience the adventures of his ancestor Aguilar in 15th century Spain. The film is directed by Justin Kurzel (Macbeth) and co-stars Marion Cotillard and Jeremy Irons. It arrives in theaters Dec. 21.
The trailer looks like a lot of fun but if the movie is anything like the video games, I’ll be storming out of the theater midway, cussing at the top of my lungs.
Sony Pictures has released a trailer for Inferno, the third film in its Robert Langdon franchise adapted from the bestselling Dan Brown novels. Ron Howard is once again at the helm with Tom Hanks reprising his role as the beloved Harvard symbologist. In theaters Oct. 28.
Inferno is adapted by David Koepp (Angels and Demons) and finds Langdon suffering from amnesia in Italy. Felicity Jones (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story) is along for the ride as Dr. Sienna Brooks, an ally to Langdon helping him regain his memories to save the world from a plague inspired by Dante’s “Inferno.”

Men stuck at sea. So, we can assume the film’s female cast won’t get much screen time. So enjoy that peek at Weronika!
So why post about a movie with a mostly male cast? Sharks! USS Indianapolis: Men of Courage tells the true story of the ill-fated NAVY warship sunk by a Japanese submarine torpedo in 1945 after delivering parts for the first atomic bomb to the United States. Approximately 900 survivors were left adrift.
Rescue came four days later, but nearly 600 crewmen were dead by then, victims of dehydration, exposure, salt water poisoning, and sharks! According to Discovery’s Shark Week, the tragedy resulted in the most shark attacks on humans ever, citing oceanic whitetips and tiger sharks as the culprits.
Nicolas Cage stars USS Indianapolis Captain Charles McVay, initially court-martialed for not zig-zagging out of harm’s way. The conviction was later overturned and McVay returned to duty. Sadly, a shitload of hate mail from families of the deceased led to his suicide at the age of 70. Even more sad, Mario Van Peebles is at the helm of this project.
Twentieth Century Fox has released a much too-short video profile for Olivia Munn’s Psylocke, the sexiest mutant to join its X-Men franchise. Munn briefly discusses the character’s purpose in Marvel’s upcoming X-Men: Apocalypse, but it’s the revealing purple costume that speaks volumes.
X-Men Apocalypse pits mutants of the goody-two-shoes variety up against a Magneto, Storm, some dude called Angel, and Psylocke, collectively known as the Four Horsemen of evil mutant god, Apocalypse – see what they did there?
Sony Pictures has released a new trailer for its upcoming shark thriller The Shallows. The film is directed by Jaume Collet-Serra (Orphan) and stars Blake Lively (Age of Adaline) as a surfer stranded on a rock just a few feet from shore after being attacked by a great white.
The new trailer provides background into Lively’s character and two extremely exciting reveals: a Shark Week inspired Air Jaws attack on some poor sap and Lively’s revealing bikini bottom both at beginning and end! The goodness arrives June 29.
MGM and GK Films have found a new Lara Croft in Oscar winner Alicia Vikander. The Swedish stunner will play the iconic video game adventurer in the studios’ upcoming Tomb Raider reboot, directed by Roar Uthaug (Cold Prey) from a script by Evan Daugherty (Divergent) and Geneva Robertson (Transformers 5).
Based on Square Enix’s 2013 reboot of the Tomb Raider video game, the new adaptation finds Vikander as a young and inexperienced, small-breasted Croft on her first big adventure. The Croft role was famously played by Angelina Jolie for Paramount in 2001’s Lara Croft: Tomb Raider and 2003’s Cradle of Life sequel.
Vikander won a Best Supporting Actress Oscar this year for her role in The Danish Girl, but was actually seen by movie audiences in the sexy A.I. thriller Ex Machina. She also co-starred in the awesome, but overlooked, Man From U.N.C.L.E. remake and The Seventh Son. She’ll be seen this summer in Jason Bourne.
Twentieth Century Fox has released a final trailer for Marvel’s X-Men: Apocalypse, arriving in theaters May 27. Bryan Singer is back at the helm with James McAvoy (Professor X), Michael Fassbender (Magneto), and Jennifer Lawrence (Mystique) reprising their roles.
Oscar Isaac joins the cast as merciless mutant god Apocalypse and is joined by Alexandra Shipp as Storm, Ben Hardy as Angel, and sexy geek goddess Olivia Munn as scantly clad baddie Psylocke. A lot of shit gets destroyed in the clip and there are many mutants to peep, including a temperamental old friend.
