‘Deadgirl’ Sequel Remains Buried, But You Can Read the ‘Deadgirl 2’ Script Now!

Deadgirl-tied

Screenwriter Trent Haaga has posted online the completed script for Deadgirl 2, a sequel to his and directors Marcel Sarmiento and Gadi Harel’s controversial indie-frightener about a group of misfit teen boys who discover a beautiful naked female zombie chained in an abandoned insane asylum.

What follows is a morality play that splits childhood buddies Rickie and J.T., the latter of which believes he’s just won the Publishers Clearing House Sweepstakes of free poon. Plans for a Deadgirl sequel were talked about last year, but, sadly, it appears the project has been abandoned.

Haaga writes on his blog:

I always saw the original DEADGIRL as a condemnation of misogyny as opposed to being misogynous – the boys were the monsters, not the “monster” of the title. But a lot of people didn’t see it that way.

My idea for the sequel was to try and tell a story from the point of view of a female outcast and what would happen if she found the DEADGIRL this time … instead of using the DEADGIRL for the impetus of her sexual fantasies, what if she used the DEADGIRL for her revenge fantasies instead?

What I ended up writing could maybe be described as “Precious meets The Pit with a zombie attack dog. Maybe this movie would have sucked. Maybe people would have loved it. Who knows? It wouldn’t have hurt to at least try, but alas it wasn’t to be.

So as a special treat to my fans and blog readers and the fans of the first DEADGIRL, I’ve decided to let everyone who’s interested take a look at the un-produced screenplay.

Deadgirl is one of my all-time favorite horror movies. It’s beyond fucked up, but gripping and thought-provoking. The kind of film that can find your most repressed sinister inklings and immediately make you feel guilty enough to donate time and money to the local women’s shelter.

Liv Tyler Is Lost in Space Without a Morning-After Pill In ‘The Side Effect’

liv-tyler-leggy

Liv Tyler has signed on to star in director Ti West’s (House of the Devil) new sci-fi, psychological nightmare The Side Effect. Tyler will play the role of Catherine Rigby, a woman who inexplicably becomes pregnant while living alone in space for months as a test subject for a global pharmaceutical company.

She tells Deadline:

[Ti West] is a super-talented exciting young filmmaker. The role of Rigby is a fantastic character within a great thriller and I am looking forward to sinking my teeth into the part.

The Side Effect marks Tyler’s return to horror since starring in the truly frightening home-invasion slasher The Strangers in 2008. Additional genre creds include the Michael Bay disaster-thriller Armageddon,  Uni and Marvel’s 2008 redo of The Incredible Hulk, James Gunn’s superhero comedy Super and, of course, Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings trilogy.

The Side Effect, which will most likely be retitled as Hollywood big shot Steven Soderbergh is shooting a film with the same name, will be shopped at this year’s European Film Market.

Abigail Spencer Should Always Be ‘In Your Eyes’

Abigail-Spencer-Leggy

Former “Mad Men” starlet Abigail Spencer is set to star in geek-messiah Joss Whedon’s (The Avengers) modestly budgeted sci-fi romance In Your Eyes. Spencer will play a woman whose life is supernaturally intertwined with that of a man she would normally never befriend.

She tells Vulture:

It’s my first time [doing a project with Whedon], but I’ve always wanted to work with him. I’m so excited to do it. It’s the most romantic film in the history of time. It’s a supernatural romance.

Spencer, who is coming off last year’s Uni tent-pole Cowboys & Aliens, will next be seen as a mother who believes her child may be possessed in The Lionsgate sequel The Haunting in Georgia and as an assistant to young magician Oz in Sam Raimi’s Oz, the Great and Powerful.

In Your Eyes is directed by Brin Hill (Ball Don’t Lie) from a script by Whedon, who produces with Kai Cole through their recently launched Bellwether Pictures studio.

Real-Humans-Äkta-människor

SVT and Matador Films will premiere creator Lars Lundström’s new Swedish sci-fi drama “Real Humans (Äkta människor)” on Jan. 22. The one-hour, 10-episode series centers on robots so human-like that some party-poopers decide they should not be used for dirty sex and servitude, but instead granted equal rights.

And, suddenly, “Small Wonder” doesn’t seem quite as innocent a family show as we once thought. I never trusted Ted Lawson and United Robotronics.

Peep it:

Couldn’t get past the the robot boobs? This is the official synopsis:

“Real Humans” takes place in a parallel world to our own, in which people’s lives have been completely transformed by the new generation of robots, the Hubots. They’re used as servants, heavy laborers, company for the lonely and even sex partners.

But Hubots also create conflicts – within families, in places of work and among those concerned about public safety. Their intelligence exceeds our own. Are there any jobs left that are not best carried out by a robot? Can they develop feelings of their own? Can a Hubot harm a human being?

Leo and Niska lead a group of rogue Hubots who are fighting for their freedom. But Leo and Niska don’t agree on methods. During an escape, Leo’s beloved Mimi disappears and Leo leaves the group to find her.

At the same time, the Engman family decides to buy a used Hubot, against the mother Inger’s wishes – at first. But the Hubot addition to the family, Anita, soon wins her over. A lawyer, Inger soon begins to represent clients who support equal rights for Hubots.

Warehouse foreman Roger’s life has begun coming apart at the seams. His wife has left him for her Hubot and all of his human coworkers have been replaced by Hubots as well. Roger joins a resistance movement. Behind the everyday facade, a whole new world is coming to life.

“Real Humans” is directed by Harald Hamrell och Levan Akin and stars Andreas Wilson (Kill Your Darlings) as Leo, Eva Röse (Storm) as Niska, and Lisette Pagler as topless Asian Hubot Mimi.

The show will premiere on Swedish network SVT1, but don’t panic; you’ll still get a chance to see the series as format and international distribution rights have been sold to U.K. distro-house Shine Group.

Along for the Ride: Briana Evigan Joins ‘The Devil’s Carnival’

Briana-Evigan-Leggy

Actress Briana Evigan tweeted news last night that will serve as music to horror fans’ ears. The Los Angeles-born stunner is joining director Darren Bousman’s (Repo! The Genetic Opera) new musical horror show The Devil’s Carnival.

Evigan, who teamed up with Bousman on last year’s Mother’s Day remake, has starred in a number of notable frighteners, including Summit’s Sorority Row redo, the 2009 Donnie Darko sequel S. Darko, and the oh-shit-there’s-a-tiger-in-my-living-room thriller Burning Bright.

Ashlynn-Yennie-Leggy

After watching newcomer Ashlynn Yennie eat shit and die in madcap director Tom Six’s demented cult 2009 hit The Human Centipede, I was certain the Wyoming-born starlet would quit Hollywood and head back home to work the mines.

But, when she resurfaced in its sequel last year, it became apparent that Yennie is here to stay. I am now convinced that the pretty 26-year-old has got scream queen midi-chlorians pumping in her blood.

This, of course, bodes well for writer/director Adam Gierasch’s (Night of the Demons – 2010) new Seven Arts frightener Schism, which stars Yennie as a woman in a committed relationship with a Baton Rouge cook with a dark past.

Schism costars Callum Blue (“Smallville”) as Yennie’s boyfriend and Vinnie Jones (Midnight Meat Train) in what will surely be some kind of pissed off character role. The film—said to be in the vein of Adrian Lyne’s Jacob’s Ladder—will shoot in New Orleans.
